Notes: Summary In this paper an appropriate analytical treatment for the determination, through exact formulae, of large elastic deformations in thin skew-curved rods is presented. This problem is associated with a system of fifteen nonlinear, ordinary, differential equations of the first order; the unknowns of the system are the final curvature and torsion functions, as well as the generalized internal forces and displacements of the rod. Subsequently, the problem of a thin cantilever circular rod subjected to terminal co-planar forces is examined and closed formulae determining its generalized displacements are obtained. Finally, the effectiveness and the potentialities of the method are demonstrated by several numerical applications.

Notes: Summary In this paper closed form solutions for the evaluation of the stress and strain-fields are estimated for a power-law hardening, plastically incompressible material, cracked under plane-strain conditions. A convenient decoupling methodology, concerning a strongly non-linear ordinary differential system given by Rice and Rosengren [1], leads to a modified higher-order non-linear differential equation which for the case of low strain-hardening behaviour, using appropriate analytical treatments, is integrated in a closed form. Applications of the derived solutions for low hardening exponents yield results which are in excellent agreement with those derived numerically by other investigators. The solutions obtained herein cover a large class of problems in the mathematical theory of plasticity and fracture mechanics, and may be proved powerful in application .

Description / Table of Contents: Summary A thorough and rigorous analysis for the decoupling of a first-order partial differential system of four (3×1)-vectorial equations (with constant coefficients), governing the free three-dimensional dynamic equilibrium of an arc element of an elastic circular helicoidal bar, is presented. Through this decoupling procedure the equivalent to the system differential equation, with respect to one of the generalized displacements, results of the twelfth-order. Under the assumption that the general integral of this equation is given and for the most general case of response, the transcendental equation for the determination of the natural frequencies of the system is formulated. Finally, as an application on the method and under some restrictions the general integral of the differential equation of harmonic motions of an elastic helicoidal bar is determined in the form of elementary functions.

Notes: Summary In this paper an analytical procedure for the nonlinear elastic analysis of a cantilever planar curved beam, subjected to a concentrated co-planar force at its free end, is presented. According to this method the nonlinear differential equations describing the equilibrium of the deformed beam are decoupled and a solution in the form of elliptic integrals is obtained, in the case when the curvature of the initial beam is a linear function of the areS.

Notes: Summary The present paper deals with the problem of three-dimensional forced harmonic motions of a cantilever planar-curved bar being considered as a discrete system of-n-points of mass. At these points the mass of the bar is supposed as being lumped under the form of small rectangular parallelepipeds, so that the influences of shearing forces and rotatory inertias to be taken into account. In the beginning, the generalized flexibility matrix of the system is formulated; then, based on this matrix, two independent vectorial differential equations of forced harmonic vibrations of the bar are constructed and their exact solutions are derived. Finally, as an application of the method the generalized flexibility matrix of a cantilever circular bar is formulated and the natural frequencies of the system are calculated when a small cubic body being attached at its free end is vibrating vertically to the plane of the bar.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Mit Hilfe des Superpositionsprinzipes wird der allgemeinste Fall von Verformung und Belastung untersucht.
Notes: Summary Based on the principle of superposition, the closed form solution for the static analysis of a continuous skew-curved beam in the most general case of response and loading is presented. Each differential element of the centroidal axis of the beam is given six degrees of freedom: three translations and three rotations. Three internal forces and three internal moments are assumed to act at each point of the centroidal axis of the beam. Finally, the correctness of the method is shown through an application to a special case of a continuous skew-curved beam.

Notes: Summary A closed-form solution of the problem of the stress-evaluation in a rigid-perfectly plastic material under plane-strain conditions is presented. The solution is derived from the nonlinear partial differential system consisted of the equations of stress-equilibrium and an appropriate yield condition, in the present case the von Mises-Hencky one. The decoupling of the above system leads to a second order partial differential equation of the Monge type, a closed-form solution of which is obtained.
