Notes: Abstract We give an explicit description of a tensor norm equivalent on $$C(K){\text{ }} \otimes {\text{ }}F$$ to the associated tensor norm ν qp to the ideal of (g,p)-absolutely summing operators. As a consequence, we describe a tensor norm on the class of Banach spaces which is equivalent to the left projective tensor norm associated to ν qp .

Notes: Abstract  The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of four different doses of granisetron when administered as a single intravenous (i.v.) dose for prophylaxis of cisplatin-induced emesis in a multicenter, randomized, parallel-group, double-blind investigation. A total of 353 chemotherapy-naive patients were enrolled, stratified according to cisplatin dose (moderate dose: 50–80 mg/m2, n=169; high dose: 81–120 mg/m2, n=184) and randomized to one of four granisetron doses: 5, 10, 20, or 40 μg/kg. Control of emesis was evaluated by the percentages of patients attaining complete response (no vomiting or retching, and no rescue medication) and major response (≤2 episodes of vomiting or retching, and no rescue medication). Patients were assessed on an inpatient basis for 18–24 h. Safety analyses consisted of adverse events and laboratory parameter changes. Complete response rates over 24 h after chemotherapy were 23%, 48%, 48%, and 44% for granisetron doses of 5, 10, 20, and 40 μg/kg, respectively, in the combined patient population (P=0.011 for linear trend); 29%, 56%, 58%, and 41%, respectively, in the moderate-dose cisplatin stratum (P=0.278 for linear trend); and 18%, 41%, 40%, and 47%, respectively, in the high-dose cisplatin stratum (P=0.011 for linear trend). Transient headache was the most frequently reported adverse event (19%). There was no evidence of association between increased dose and headache. A single 10-, 20- or 40-μg/kg dose of granisetron is comparably effective in controlling nausea and vomiting associated with moderate- or high-dose cisplatin chemotherapy. Granisetron was safe and well tolerated at all doses.

Notes: Abstract  The goal of this work was to evaluate the efficacy of 5-HT3 receptor antagonist regimens in the transplant setting through a retrospective analysis of clinic patients and a review of the literature. A retrospective study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of an antiemetic regimen in 24 patients receiving high-dose chemotherapy with bone marrow transplantation. The antiemetic agent used in 96% of the patients was single-agent ondansetron 0.15 mg/kg as a continuous infusion every 12 h starting on the first day of chemotherapy. Efficacy or failure was defined by the need for administration of rescue antiemetics, as documented by nurses' notes and pharmacy records. Overall, 23 (96%) patients experienced antiemetic failure within the first 3 days. Rescue antiemetics yielded improved control of nausea and vomiting in 16 of 23 (70%) patients. These data demonstrate poor antiemetic efficacy of single-agent, continuous-infusion ondansetron in a small group of patients receiving high-dose chemotherapy with bone marrow transplantation. These data are considered in the context of a thorough literature review that shows the limitations of previously reported antiemetic studies in this setting, potential pharmacokinetic interactions, and also highlights the utilization of combination therapy, administered orally or intravenously, to improve efficacy and tolerability of antiemetic therapy. A number of recent investigations suggest that appropriate doses of 5-HT3 receptor antagonists with phenothiazine and corticosteroids can improve the safety and efficacy of antiemetic regimens in patients undergoing transplantation.

Notes: Abstract We define two properties of sequences in Banach spaces that may be related to measures of noncompactness of subsets of these spaces. The first one concerns properties of sequences related to the strong topology, and the second one is related to the weak topology. Given a Banach space X, we introduce a new Banach space such that we can find a subset E in it that may be identified with the balls in the first one. We use compactness in this new space to characterize our sequential properties. In particular, we prove a general form of the Eberlein-Smulian theorem.
