    Notes: Abstract: The temperature dependence of the reflectivity spectra of three manganites ceramics with compositions Pr0.7Ca0.3MnO3, Pr0.7Ca0.25Sr0.05MnO3 and Pr0.7Ca0.1Sr0.2MnO3 has been investigated by infrared reflectivity spectroscopy in the wave number range 0.005-1.1 eV. The compound Pr0.7Ca0.25Sr0.05MnO3 which shows the largest conductivity jump at the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition has been studied in details. The optical conductivity of this compound is deduced from the best fit to reflectivity spectra of a “double-damping Drude” model, itself derived from the factorized form of the dielectric function. Excellent agreement with Kramers-Kronig transformation is reported. The model allows in particular to discriminate the contributions to the optical conductivity of trapped charges (polarons) and mobile charge carriers.

    Notes: Abstract: The reflectivity spectrum of a polyaniline CSA-doped in presence of m-cresol has been measured over the wide wavenumber range of 15- 9 000 cm -1 (0.002-1.1 eV) at room temperature. Experimental data compare well with similar experiments performed by another group. The conductivity spectrum of this conducting polymer has been deduced from the reflectivity spectrum by means of two methods, Kramers-Kronig transformation and best fit of an “extended Drude” model to the reflectivity spectrum. Whereas the deviation from Drude behavior was interpreted in terms of Anderson localization or by inhomogeneous disorder by other groups, it is shown here that a different model developed for conducting oxides that also exhibit non-Drude behavior, applies very well to this example of conducting polymer.

    Notes: Abstract: The reflectivity spectrum of a polyaniline CSA-doped in presence of m-cresol has been measured over the wide wavenumber range 25-15,000 cm-1 (0.003-1.9 eV) for three different doping levels. Since spectra cannot be fitted correctly with the conventional Drude model, several extensions are tested. A model derived from the factorized form of the dielectric response and including the effect of Anderson localization in disordered metals, is proposed and found to yield good fit to data with a satisfactory physical meaning. Data are reduced to a small number of parameters potentially useful for further comparison with other conducting polymers or even other non-Drude conducting media like oxides.

    Notes: Abstract: The reflectivity spectra of an oriented ceramic of Bi-2223 has been investigated by polarized infrared reflectivity spectroscopy in the energy range 0.005-2.2 eV. It is shown that the data for the polarization parallel to the c axis cannot be fitted with a one-component Drude or extended-Drude model. The conductivity spectrum is then obtained from the best fit of a “double-damping Drude” model to reflectivity spectra, itself derived from the factorized form of the dielectric function, and by a Kramers-Kronig inversion as well. The data and their analysis give a new insight of the 2D character of the system.

    Notes: Abstract A retrospective study based on 4,307 drug patient records was designed to establish a chart of the consumption of benzodiazepines administered orally in a 635-bed teaching hospital, and to determine the influence of patient-related parameters (age, sex) and hospital-related parameters (type of services, prescription habits,etc.) on benzodiazepine Utilization. Another objective was to evaluate to which extent benzodiazepine consumption can be induced by hospitalization. A minor but statistically significant difference (p 〈0.05) was observed between the proportion of male (42.7%) and female (46.5%) users. Besides, when evaluating the consumption in number of defined daily doses per 100 beddays, there was little difference between the consumption of male (51.2 defined daily doses per 100 beddays) and female (52.8 defined daily doses per 100 beddays) patients. A significant influence of age was also observed with an increase of benzodiazepine use for patients aged from 15–20 to 40–45, followed by a progressive decrease for higher ages. With hypnotics, no peak of consumption related to age was observed but an increase of consumption from age 15–20 to 30–35. For higher ages the consumption of hypnotics was nearly stable or rising slowly. High variations in benzodiazepine utilization were recorded between hospital wards (median: 50.77 defined daily doses per 100 beddays, range 0.23–263.9). Finally, it was found that 6.8% of patients with a benzodiazepine treatment initiated during hospitalization may be considered as potential benzodiazepine consumers after discharge.
