Description / Table of Contents: Summary The applicability conditions of theBoyd solution for the secondFick's law of diffusion have been investigated for the evaluation of the kinetic sorption data. It could be pointed out, that the Paterson's solution of the second Fick's law must be applied with the exception of some special cases. In this expression the fractional attainment of equilibrium depends on a supplementary parameter which contains the ratio of the phase volumes and the isotherm slope. The choice of the optimum initial and final loadings of the sorbens and of the phase volumes ratio is discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary In order to determine the diffusivities in solids from sorption data, the approximation solutions of the secondFick's law as cited in literature have been investigated with regard to their accuracy and validity range. Two new approximation solutions showing a greater accuracy have been derived. With a view to compute the diffusivities, the time parameterDt/r 2 has been tabulated as a function of the fractional attaintment of equilibrium, with a relative precision of 0.001 (also in the case of interpolation). Furthermore some graphic procedures for the determination of the diffusivities are proposed and their applicabilities are discussed.

Notes: Adsorption of Vinyl Chloride on Activated Carbons, Adsorber Polymers and Zeolites. II. Kinetics of AdsorptionChlorinated hydrocarbons are a source of danger to the environment. Therefore they have to be eliminated. Adsorption processes seem to be most effective for the separation of vinyl chloride from the air. In this paper the adsorption of vinyl chloride on activated carbon, adsorber polymers or zeolites has been investigated in order to determine kinetic data by a gravimetric adsorption apparatus. These data have been applied to calculate of effective diffusion coefficients using an approximation of Fick's second law. The calculated diffusivities show a dependence on the amount adsorbed, the structure and the properties of the adsorbent.

Description / Table of Contents: Selectivity of Ion Exchange on Dealuminated MordenitesIon Exchange selectivity of Na-mordenites dealuminated by HCl for K+, Mg++, Ca++, and Ba++ ions was investigated. Selectivity for K+ ions decreases nearly linear with increasing dealumination of mordenite whereas the selectivity for alkaline earth ions increases. Due to dealumination of mordenite its characteristical preference for monovalent towards divalent cationa is reversed.
