Notes: Amorphous Ge2Sb2Te5 films were prepared by rf sputtering from the bulk alloy. Their electrical and optical properties were analyzed using impedance and optical transmission measurements as a function of temperature. From this analysis, it is found that the glass transition temperature of the as-prepared amorphous films is of about 100 °C. This result is confirmed by calorimetric measurements. Impedance and optical measurements in films measured at temperatures between the glass transition and the crystallization temperatures show the appearance of the nucleation centers. Using models for two-phase materials, the electrical parameters of the crystalline and amorphous phases were estimated and related with structural parameters of the samples. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Silicon oxide films with a small amount of alpha alumina particles embedded in the glass matrix were prepared using the sol-gel method. It is found that the structural properties of these samples are superior to those observed in similarly prepared films, but without the alumina particles. This conclusion was deduced from analysis of the oxygen diffusion measurements through the SiO2 layer, using a novel method, and from the measured dielectric breakdown field. It is found that the oxygen diffusion coefficient is much lower and the dielectric breakdown field is larger in samples with the alumina particles. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract An analytical calculation of the high-frequency capacitance-voltage characteristic of a GaAs thin-film structure is carried out. It is shown that the peculiarities of this characteristic, namely an abrupt drop followed by a falloff to zero, are due to the merging of the depletion regions of the Schottky barrier and the film-substrate junction and to a lag in the recharging of deep centers in the substrate.

Notes: Abstract The studies of Gunn diodes on the basis of GaAs with different types of cathode contacts, the profile of doping, the active area length and temperature at frequencies of the second and third harmonics were carried out to obtain effective oscillation in the millimeter and submillimeter ranges.

Notes: Abstract The case of an infinitely slender wing that slightly disturbs a supersonic ideal gas flow is considered. The plan form and the free-stream Mach number M∞ are given. The optimum surface of the wing y=g(x, z) is determined as a result of finding a bounded function of the local angles of attack αM=∂g(x, z)/∂x that minimizes the drag coefficient cx for given values of the lift coefficient cy and the pitching moment coefficient mz. The problem is solved in the class of piecewise-constant functions for wings of complex geometry [1].

Notes: Abstract Lifting wings that only slightly disturb the supersonic gas flow are considered. The plan shape and thickness distribution of the wing and the free-stream parameters are given. The flow problem is solved within the framework of the Prandtl model. The outer potential flow is determined in accordance with the linear theory. The turbulent boundary layer is found by the method of plane sections with allowance for the three-dimensional inviscid flow pattern. A numerical model of the flow is constructed in the class of piecewise-constant functions on characteristic calculation grids [1]. The variational problem of finding the weakly curved middle surface of the wing giving maximum aerodynamic quality is reduced, by analogy with [2], to a problem of nonlinear programming and is solved by the gradient projection method.

Notes: Abstract Infinitely thin wings weakly perturbing a supersonic flow of perfect gas are investigated. The flow problem is solved in a linear formulation [1]. The shape of the wing in plan and the Mach number M∞ of the oncoming flow are specified. The optimal wing surface is determined as a result of finding the function of the local angles of attack αM(x, z) which ensures a minimum of the drag coefficient cx when there are limitations in the form of equalities on the lift coefficient cy and the pitching moment mz. A separationless flow regime is realized on the optimal wing for the given number M∞, and its subsonic leading edge does not experience a load [2].
