Notes: Abstract MTBE synthesis has been studied over catalysts having different acidities: zeolites, fluorine-promoted SiO2−Al2O3 and sulfur-promoted ZrO2. Some catalysts perform similarly to acidic resins and a clear relationship between acidity and activity is not apparent.

Notes: The sensitivity of the plate number and reflux ratio to the description of vapour-liquid equilibria in the 1,1,1-trichloroethane-1,2-dichloroethane separation was calculated via case studies. Published experimental data are not sufficiently accurate to satisfy an adequate overdesign of the distillation column. On the other hand, the data are suitable for the design of an extractive distillation.

Notes: Comparative calculations of several methods of characterization for three multicomponent mixtures that include paraffin, naphthene, and aromatic fractions are shown. Each method requires different experimental information about the mixtures but all use the numerical Gauss-Legendre quadrature. The results show that characterization making direct use of the TPB distillation curve is the most suitable approach for characterizing complex multicomponent mixtures.
