Summary The kinetics of the 1:1-complex formation of Al(IIII) with ferron in aqueous Al(III) solutions, “prebuffered” with chloroacetate at excess of Al(III) was studied. The results lead to the specification of a reaction scheme including the species AlOH2+, Al(OH) 2 + , Al2OH5+ or Al2(OH) 2 4+ , AlClac 2+ and HL − (H2 L is ferron) and indicate the influence of chloroacetate on the species distribution in prebuffered Al(III) solutions. The water exchange rate constants (according to the conventional Eigen-Tamm-mechanism) were evaluated: $$\begin{gathered} k_{AlOH^{2 + } }^* = 1.12 \cdot 10^3 s^{ - 1} ,k_{Al(OH)_{2 + } }^* = 1.18 \cdot 10^5 s^{ - 1} , \hfill \\ k_{Al_2 OH^{5 + } }^* = 277s^{ - 1} ,k_{AlClac^{2 + } }^* = 2.2s^{ - 1} . \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$
