Notes: Abstract Some unpleasant features of the usual treatment of irreversible processes in quantum mechanics are discussed. It is shown how the description of a non-relativistic unstable particle can be cleanly embedded into a reversible Galilean quantum field theory. It is proven that in the case of stable particles the embedding procedure gives the same values for internal energy which are obtained by the usual procedure. Finally the technique is applied to the ‘Galilee’ model.

Notes: Abstract The usual treatment of decaying non-relativistic particles by means of a non-unitary irreducible representation of the Galilei group is deduced from a suitable formulation of symmetry principles. In such a formulation time translation is distinguished from time evolution; this point is crucial to obtain the irreversible behaviour of unstable particles.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bericht über angiotomographische Untersuchungen bei intrakraniellen Aneurysmen.
Notes: Summary Angio-tomography has been used for the study of intracranial aneurysms. The findings obtained in the twelve patients so far examined indicate that the technique presents the following advantages. 1. Good visualization of size and shape of the body of the aneurysm. 2. Identification of parent vessel and mode of implant of the aneurysm. 3. Definition of the spatial relations of the aneurysm with the surrounding vessels. The value of the information provided by angio-tomography in the planning of the neurosurgical treatment of the aneurysm is stressed.

Notes: Abstract Aseptic meningitis is a rare adverse drug reaction, reported with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) and with miscellaneous drugs such as trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX). The most common clinical findings reported are fever, headache, stiffness and altered level of consciousness. We report a case of aseptic meningitis related to TMP-SMX ingestion that caused severe derangements of the patient's vital signs, requiring Intensive Care Unit admittance. The prompt diagnosis and discontinuation of the drug resulted in complete recovery. We examine the case according to the literature on this topic.¶We conclude that, since the signs and symptoms of this unusual drug reaction may mimic those of central nervous system infection, the clinician should consider this etiology when he is faced with a patient with suspected meningoencephalitis, especially if the latter has already been treated at home with unknown drugs. Further studies should investigate the pathogenetic mechanism of TMP-SMX-induced aseptic meningitis.

Notes: Summary Angiotomography has permitted the evaluation of the normal carotid circulation on various vascular planes, perfectly parallel and at a well known distance. It has been therefore possible to carry out an analytical and spatial study of the vessels. This technique has also allowed the identification and the spatial location, during the capillary phase, of certain anatomical structures, such as the caudate nucleus, the putamen, the body of the lateral ventricle, etc. The application of simultaneous tomography to normal carotid angiography has thus made a valuable contribution to the criteria of evaluation of the normal radioanatomical pictures.

Notes: Abstract We report a clinical multicentre experience with antidepressant agents (trazodone and amitriptyline) in the treatment of chronic pain due to deafferentation. Forty five patients were admitted to the study; most of them with oncological peripheral nerve lesions. Almost all of them were already being treated with NSAID in association with weak or strong opioids. A random double blind study was performed: 23 patients were treated with trazodone, 22 with amitryptiline. In the assessment of results, pain intensity, hours of sleep, hours standing and lying, side effects, mood, anxiety and weakness were all taken into consideration. The therapeutic analgesic efficacy of the two drugs proved to be similar.

Notes: Abstract A case of repeated reversible cerebrovascular deficit proved on computerized tomography to be hemorrhagic in origin. It would seem advisable to await the outcome of CT before classifying a case of cerebrovascular disease even though the clinical features point to ischemia as the cause.
