Notes: Summary The nonlinear integral equations for a U-shaped bellows with compressed angle and varying wall-thickness are derived according to the simplified Reissner theory of large deflection for revolution shells and integral-equation method. The iteration procedure for nonlinear analysis is developed by means of the integral equation iteration in conjunction with the gradient method. Numerical solutions for a U-shaped bellows under the action of axial compression force and internal pressure are obtained, which are compared with previous theories and experiments. The present results are shown to have a good accuracy, and may be applied directly to the design of bellows.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, fundamental equations and boundary conditions of the nonlinear bending theory for a rectangular sandwich plate with a soft core are derived by means of the method of calculus of variations. Then the nonlinear bending for a simply supported rectangular sandwich plate under the uniform lateral load is investigated by use of the perturbation method and a quite accurate analytic solution is obtained.

Notes: Abstract Based on fundamental assumptions, an analysis of the constitutive relations between the internal forces and deformations of discrete rectangular reticulated structures is given. On the basis of this, an equivalent continuum model is adopted and the application of the principle of virtual work leads to non-linear governing equations and corresponding boundary conditions.

Notes: Abstract A problem of practical interest for nonlinear axisymmetrical stability of a clamped truncated shallow spherical shell with a nondeformable rigid body under a uniformly distributed load is studied in this paper. By using modified iteration method, some important analytic results are obtained and the corresponding numerical results are given in figures.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, nonlinear bending of a corrugated circular plate with a plane central region under the combined action of uniformly distributed load and a concentrated load at the center has been investigated by using large deflection theories of isotropic and anisotropic circular plates. The quite accurate analytical solutions for rigidly as well as loosely clamped edge conditions have been obtained following the modified iteration method.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, the large deflection theory of symmetrically laminated cylindrically orthotropic shallow spherical shells is established. Based on this theory, applying the modified iteration method, the analytic solution for critical buckling loads of the shells with rigidly clamped edges under actions of uniform pressure has been obtained.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, the modified iteration method is successfully extended to investigate the nonlinear free vibration of corrugated circular plates with full corrugations. The analytical relation for the amplitude-frequency response of corrugated circular plates is obtained and discussions on the influences of geometrical parameters on vibration behaviours of corrugated circular plates are made. The present results are practically important in the design of elastic elements in precision instruments.

Notes: Abstract In this paper fatigue strength of T-type tubular joints subjected to in-plane bending or out-of-plane bending load is investigated. By considering material constants and initial crack sizes as random variables and applying Monte Carlo simulation method, we have given a statistical analysis on fatigue life. Simultaneosly, linear regression analyses of computed results are performed and compared with that of the known experimental data.

Notes: Abstract The theory of nonlinear stability for a truncated shallow conical shell with variable thickness under the action of uniform pressure was presented. The fundamental equations and boundary conditions were derived by means of calculus of variations. An analytic solution for the critical buckling pressure of the shell with a hyperbolically varying thickness is obtained by use of modified iteration method. The results of numerical calculations are presented in diagrams, which show the influence of geometrical and physical parameters on the buckling behavior.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, fundamental equations and boundary conditions of nonlinear axisymmetrical bending theory for the circular sandwich plates with a soft core are derived by means of the method of calculus of variations. Especially in the case of very thin faces, the preceding fundamental epuations and boundary conditions simplity considerably. For example, a circular sandwich plate with edge clamped but free to siip under the action of uniform lateral load is considered. A more accurate solution of this problem has been obtained by means of the modified iteration method.
