    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé Par un examen de données de la littérature relatives à des éprouvettes en flexion sur trois points et des éprouvettes compactes, on a procédé à une validation d'une relation, précédemment suggérée, entre la charge, le déplacement, et le ligament restant conduisant à une croissance de fissure stable. On a trouvé que les courbes de référence résultant de cette analyse consistent en un ou plusieurs segments paraboliques, la majeure partie de la croissance de fissure étant généralement confinée suivant un des segments. L'intégraleJ a ensuite été exprimée en termes des paramètres des équations paraboliques. Les courbes traduisant la résistance à la croissance de la fissure et les modules de déchirement calculés suivant cette manière sont en bon accord avec ceux trouvés par d'autres techniques de calcul utilisant le champ lointain.
    Notes: Abstract A previously suggested relation among load, displacement, and remaining-ligament for stable crack growth was validated by examining literature data on three-point-bend and compact specimens. The resulting key curves were found to consist of one or more power-law segments, with the major portion of growth generally confined to one of the segments. The J-integral was then expressed in terms of the parameters of the power-law equations. The crack-growth-resistance curves and tearing moduli calculated in this manner agree well with those found using other far-field computational techniques.

    Notes: Abstract Bend-test curves were calculated for materials obeying three very different damage laws. One result of the calculations is that the neutral axis migrates towards the compression face as the load-point displacement increases. For the three damage laws investigated, there is a simple relationship between the location of the neutral axis and the secant modulus derived from the bend-test record; this relationship is quite insensitive to the exact form of the damage law. The stress at a point 20 per cent of the beam depth from the tensile outer fibre is also fairly insensitive to the form of the damage law. Combining these two observations, it is possible to use bend-test data to make a good estimate of the tensile stress-strain curve of a material subject to damage.
