Notes: Abstract The paper is an attempt to focus on some of the issues of quality of man in India. It is hypothesised that the culture is changing towards undefined goals based on materialistic grounds of recent systems. The issues putforth here need a careful consideration on philosophical levels to reduce tensions in the society and man.

Notes: Abstract There are various tools to measure infrastructural development as applied with considerations of statistical data and geographical phenomena. As example, the ‘Physical Quality of Life Index’ (PQLI) measure has been tested on death and birth statistics and some consciousness has been reached of being reasonably acceptable tool to measure awareness of dynamism of such phenomena. An attempt has been made to consider some special data on resources and literacy in population independently and tested some issues to examine the gaps in the contemporary situation of India's development. This is the central theme outlined in this experiment to focus intensive research modifications on the concept developed by Morris D. Morris. It is essential that this research may be viewed critically by all concerned to further investigate on the issues for application on other sets of data and regions.

Notes: Summary The preparation of isomeric complexes [OsIIIX2L2]ClO4· H2O [{(4)} and (5): X = Cl or Br, L(1) = 2-(phenylazo)-pyridine (L1) or 2-(m-tolylazo)pyridine(L2)] via stereo-retentive oxidation of the corresponding osmium(II) precursors [(2) and (3), respectively] is described. The complexes were characterized using spectroscopic and electrochemical methods. The low-spin (idealized t 2g 5 ; S = 1/2) paramagnetic complex ions display characteristic osmium(III) e.p.r. spectra in frozen (-196° C) MeCNPhMe. In dry MeCN solution, the OsX2N4 unit exhibits irreversible [OsX2L2]2+/[OsX2L2]+ and reversible [OsX2L2]+/[OsX2L2] couples at ca. 1.8 and 1.0 V versus saturated calomel electrode (s.c.e.), respectively. The use of (4)/(5) as an oxidant is noted.

Notes: Abstract The kinetic profiles of norfloxacin were evaluated in afebrile, febrile and probenecid pre-treated (70 mg/kg orally) febrile goats after a single intravenous (i.v) dose (5 mg/kg). Fever was induced and maintained for 12 h by injecting Escherichia coli endotoxin (0.2 μg/kg, i.v.) and repeating it in half the dose (0.1 μg/kg) 5 h later. The plasma pharmacokinetic values for norfloxacin were best represented using a two-compartment open model. The peak norfloxacin plasma level of 90.52±3.18 μg/ml attained in the probenecid pre-treated febrile goats was higher than that in the febrile (75.46±0.72 μg/ml) or afebrile goats (62.25±1.23 μg/ml). ClB and K el values were significantly (p〈0.01) decreased in febrile compared with afebrile goats. These values were further reduced in febrile goats after probenecid pre-treatment. However, t 1/2β was not affected by the fever-probenecid interaction. Norfloxacin may be used as an infusion with probenecid in caprine diseases where very high plasma levels are required to combat resistant organisms such as Bacteroides.

Notes: Summary Paramagnetic [OsIIIDQ2]+ and diamagnetic [OsIIAQ2] (Q = deprotonated 8-quinolinols, D = diimines and A = azoimines) complexes were prepared and characterised by physicochemical, magnetic and spectroscopic methods. The complexes exhibit several spin-allowed and spinforbidden charge-transfer transitions in the visible region. In MeCN solution the OsN4O2 unit displays nearly reversible OsIV-OsIII and OsIII-OsII couples in the ca. -0.4 to +1.1 V range versus SCE. An anodic shift of these responses is seen in going from diimines to azoimines. The stability of metal oxidation levels is correlated on the basis of π-acceptor properties of these ligands.

Notes: Abstract The Indian Census Organization is internationally known for its cartographic literature and coverage. The first Census Atlas series was brought out during 1961 Census. In the 1971 period this programme was strengthened and in addition, materials drawn from updating of jurisdictions were published in diversified cartographic forms. A programme has been added in 1981 Census activities on regional mapping to interpret population data leading to cartographic evaluation in its regional frame. This paper tries to focus attention in these cartographic developments and research to all concerned.

Notes: Abstract In this paper a view is presented whether waste lands provide hope in removing agricultural poverty, additional productivity and create ecological balance. To substantiate this, data available in this regard are assessed about their distribution and historical perspective supplemented by a descriptive model where the agricultural lands are wasted due to partly physical and partly ills of laws of irrigations operating in states. Readers, researchers and agricultural institutions may like to explore more issues for raising the cultivated lands which lie idle in the core agricultural regions of India besides those to be assessed as waste lands by further investigations.
