Notes: [Auszug] Fifty years ago articles by Born, Fajans and Haber were published in the same issue of the journal Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft, and the method which has become commonly called the Born–Haber cycle was enunciated. A more correct name would be the ...

Notes: Abstract Tin (IV) chloride reacts with sulfolane (S) to form a cis-octahedral adduct SnCl4·S2. Solutions of lithium chloride and tin (IV) chloride in sulfolane contain the complex ions SnCl 5 − and SnCl 6 2− at 1∶1 and 2∶1 mole ratios of constituents, respectively. The complexes are characterized by conductimetry and by Mössbauer, IR, and Raman spectroscopy.

Notes: Abstract Two series of ternary copper phosphate and copper tellurite glasses containing strontium were prepared and the electron spin resonance spectra of glasses of compositions 65 (P2O5)-(35-x) CuO-xSrO and 65 (TeO2)-(35-x) CuO-xSrO where x varied from 0–10 mol % were investigated. From the results and the chemical analyses of the samples it was found that a reduction in the copper (II) signal intensity in the glass samples as the proportion of alkaline earth metal is raised, corresponds to an increase in the reduced valency ratio, C, in the glasses.

Notes: Abstract Computer simulations of germanium 3d core spectra obtained with reactively evaporated GeOx thin films (0 ⩽x 2) have been developed using a modified Sanderson approach, in which five basic sub-units are produced by the conversion of germanium atoms in the primary coordination sphere into either -GeOx groups or -OGeOx groups on oxidation. The relative proportion of the five sub-units are adjusted until the best agreement with the experimental XPS spectra is obtained. The volume fraction of germanium in GeOx obtained using an optical transmittance model is compared with the number fraction obtained from XPS data over a range of oxygen partial pressures.
