Notes: [Auszug] The swamp is self-contained as there is no connexion with any other freshwater body. The shortest distance from the nearest freshwater, the River Jordan, is just 10 km. The area itself covers, roughly, 1 sq. km. The swamp is fed by a number of springs, situated within and on the land border of the ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE presence of fishes of Erythrean origin in the Levant has been observed by several authors1–6. It has also been stated that these fishes must have traversed the Suez Canal and settled more or less finally in the Mediterranean. As this process of immigration of fishes into an ...

Notes: [Auszug] We have studied the radula of Acanthopleura haddoni, the largest intertidal species to be found at Eilat on the Red Sea coast, and have found that it is ferromagnetic. The magnetic moment measured at room temperature was found to be 7 EMii/g of radula; for the dentical cap at a magnetic field of 10 ...

Description / Table of Contents: Summary This paper reports on clinical trials with Cephradine (Cph.) in children aged from 2 months to 14 years with moderate to serious bacterial infections (oral application — 28 patients; parenteral application — 28 patients). Diseases, examination methods and bacteriology are discussed. The side-effects were minimal (14% after oral and 7% after parenteral application). The side-effects (gastro-intestinal symptoms, leukocyturia and increase of SGPT/OT) could not always with certainty be attributed to Cph., and they did not require an interruption of therapy. Oral therapy (medium dose 74 mg/kg) in a selected group of patients with sensitive organisms was successful in 81% of the cases, but questionable results or failure to respond was seen in 19%. Parenteral therapy (medium dose 89 mg/kg) was successful in 89%; in 11% only a doubtful success could be recorded. Possible reasons for doubtful success or failure in therapy are discussed, and the total findings are compared with other publications.
