    Notes: Abstract The results of experiment on the influence of a direct current and a low-frequency alternating current, as well as a magnetic field, on the microwave-range conductivity σ MW of Ln0.7Pb0.3MnO3 single crystals with giant magnetoresistance are presented. The greatest sensitivity of the samples toward the effects of a current is observed in the temperature range corresponding to the dc magnetoresistance maximum. The response signal of a sample in the microwave range to the effects of an alternating current of a low frequency f 0 has a nonlinear character. As f 0 is varied in a magnetic field, the amplitude of the response signal varies with the appearance of resonance peaks. The results obtained are interpreted within an approach based on the coexistence of two phases having different conductivities in the doped manganite crystals. This two-phase interpretation is supported by data from magneticresonance investigations, which demonstrate the existence of two magnetic phases over a broad temperature range in Ln0.7Pb0.3MnO3 single crystals.

    Notes: Abstract The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of Cu3B2O6 single crystals grown by spontaneous crystallization from a melt consisting of a mixture of CuO and B2O3 and the behavior of their magnetization are investigated in magnetic fields up to 55 kOe. A broad susceptibility maximum is observed near 39 K, and a sharp drop in susceptibility is observed at T〈10 K. The paramagnetic Néel temperatures for all orientations of the magnetic field in the crystal investigated are negative, attesting to the predominantly antiferromagnetic character of the exchange interactions. The effective magnetic moment of the Cu2+ ion is anisotropic and lies in the range from 1.054μ B to 1.545μ B. The magnetization depends linearly on magnetic field at T〉10 K, whereas at temperatures below 10 K a discontinuity is observed at fields of the order of 40 kOe. At room temperature, electron magnetic resonance characterized by an almost isotropic g factor (g=2.165) is detected at 36.22 GHz. The exchange interactions in Cu3B2O6 are analyzed on the basis of the Goodenough-Kanamori rules. The possibility of the establishment of a singlet magnetic state in the crystal is analyzed.

    Notes: Abstract CuB2O4 single crystals have been grown and their magnetic and resonance properties have been investigated for the first time. The temperature dependence of the susceptibility was found to contain features at T=21 and 10 K. The CuB2O4 single crystal transformed at T=21 K to a weakly ferromagnetic state. The sharp drop in susceptibility at T〈10 K is caused by a transition of the magnetic system of CuB2O4 to an antiferromagnetic state. The effective magnetic moment of the Cu2+ ion, determined from the high-temperature part of the magnetic susceptibility, is 1.77 µ B. The room-temperature g factors are, respectively, 2.170 and 2.133 for magnetic field parallel and perpendicular to the c axis of the crystal. The antiferromagnetic resonance parameters in the weakly ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases were measured.

    Notes: Abstract Large high-quality single crystals of copper metaborate are grown on the basis of the phase diagram of the ternary Li2O-CuO-B2O3 system. Bright blue crystals with a volume of about 1 cm3 were grown by the method of spontaneous crystallization while slowly cooling the melt. The magnetic susceptibility and electron spin resonance were measured. It is shown that the effective magnetic moment of a Cu2+ ion is equal to 1.6 μB and the g-factor, to 2.170 and 2.133 for the magnetic field oriented parallel and perpendicular to the fourfold axis, respectively. At 21 and 10 K, sharp anomalies of magnetic susceptibility are observed.

    Notes: Abstract An experimental study of the effect of low-frequency transport current on the microwave conductivity of single-crystal La0.7Pb0.3MnO3 is reported. In the absence of an external magnetic field, the microwave conductivity response to a current follows a relaxation behavior. In a nonzero external magnetic field, the response spectrum exhibits a peak of resonant amplitude enhancement. The resonant response has a nonlinear nature. The temperature and field dependences of the main parameters of the microwave response correlate directly with the behavior of the magnetoresistance. The results obtained are analyzed within the oscillator approximation. Electronic phase separation is proposed as a possible mechanism for the current action.

    Notes: Abstract Two absorption lines are observed over a wide temperature range below T c in the magnetic resonance spectrum of an La0.7Pb0.3MnO3 single crystal. These lines correspond to two magnetic phases in the sample. The frequency-field dependence of spectra obtained in the range of microwave radiation frequencies 10–77 GHz allows these phases to be interpreted as ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases. The phase volume ratio depends on the temperature and the magnitude of the external magnetic field. Features in the temperature behavior of parameters of the magnetic absorption line are observed in the region of the highest magnetic resistance of the sample. The results are interpreted within the mechanism of electronic phase separation.

    Notes: Abstract We study the structural, magnetic, and resonance properties of LiCu2O2 single crystals grown by the spontaneous crystallization method. The data are interpreted on the assumption that the crystalline structure of the grown single crystals is orthorhombic. Long-range antiferromagnetic order sets in at temperatures below 22.5 K, while above this temperature the dependence of the magnetic susceptibility has a shape characteristic of interacting antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains. We hypothesize that long-range magnetic order sets in below 22.5 K through the destruction of the ideal ladder structure of LiCu2O2 because of partial redistribution of copper and lithium ions at the crystal lattice sites and because of the presence of other defects in the crystalline structure.

    Notes: Abstract Reciprocal ferrite phase shifters exhibit a pronounced dependence of phase shift upon temperature. In a sample of magnesium-copper-chromium ferrite it is shown that the temperature dependence of the phase shift is basically determined by the temperature dependence of the microwave magnetic permeability.
