    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Si è costruito un semplice modello fisico-matematico per il trasporto di gas nel polmone umano. Particolare attenzione è rivolta ad ottenere una concordanza analitica con la geometria dell’albero bronchiale come data dal modello morfometrico di Weibel. La dinamica della diffusione è sviluppata secondo il modello di Taylor e di Aris e si assumono le condizioni al contorno piú semplici. Si ottiene una soluzione analitica approssimata che viene applicata ad alcuni semplici esperimenti di «washout» polmonare a singoli cicli respiratori. Un accordo soddisfacente conferma la validità del modello.
    Abstract: Резюме Развивается простая физико-математическая модель переноса газа в человечиских легких. Особое внимание уделяется получению аналитического соответствия с геометрией бронхиальнго дерева, описываемого с помощью морфометрических данных Вайбля. Динамика диффузии моделируется посредством модели Тейлора и Ариса. Предполагаются простейшие граничные условия. Выводится приближенное аналитическое решение. Рассматриваются приложения к некоторым простым экспериментам дыхания. Удовлетворительное согласие подтверждает справедливость рассмотренной модели.
    Notes: Summary A simple physico-mathematical model of gas transport in the human lung is developed. Care is taken to obtain an analytical concordance with the bronchial-tree geometry as given by the Weibel’s morphometric data. The dynamics of diffusion is modelled according to the Taylor and Aris model. The simplest boundary conditions are assumed. An approximate analytical solution is derived with applications to some simple breathing washout experiments. A satisfactory agreement confirms the validity of the model.

La viscosità è introdotta in maniera fenomenologica. L'accoppiamento con la meccanica strutturale delle pareti è espresso mediante una semplice legge locale. Le previsioni del modello sono applicate ad alcuni dei piú comuni dispositivi sperimentali e mostrano un complessivo buon accordo con i valori misurati.
    Abstract: Резюме Предлагается простая одномерная модель для стационарного течеиня вязкой несжимаемой жидкости в гибких трубах. Вязкость вводится феноменологическим путем. Согласование со структурной механикой стенок задается простым локальным законом. Предсказания модели применяются к некоторым довольно общим экспериментальным приборам. Получается удовлетворительное согласие с измеренными величинами.
    Notes: Summary A simple unidimensional model for the steady flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in collapsible tubes is proposed. The viscosity is introduced in a phenomenological way. The matching with the structural mechanics of the wall is given by a simple local way. The predictions of the model are applied to some of more common experimental devices. The agreement with the measured values is very satisfactory.

    Notes: We report here the presence of N6-methyladenine (MeAde) in the macronuclear DNA (maDNA) of Blepharisma japonicum vegetative cells. We have further investigated the relationship between DNA methylation and cell union in cells activated for conjugation. Such activation was induced by treating cells of mating type I with complementary gamone 2. We found a reduction of about 24% of MeAde content in gamone-treated cells ready for cell union. First indications of the presence and reduction of MeAde content came from electrophoresis of maDNA digested by appropriate restriction endonucleases. Chromatographic determination of the amount of methylated base by HPLC substantiated these observations. In vegetative cells, 1.576 ± 0.02% of total adenine was found to be methylated as opposed to 1.193 ± 0.04% in activated cells. The HPLC analysis of maDNA also revealed a peak with a retention time corresponding to that of 5-hydroxymethyluracil, already found in some species of dinoflagellates. In that gamone treatment is correlated with a differential gene expression (indicated by a differential RNA and protein synthesis), our results suggest that there is a relationship between macronuclear genome activation and demethylation of maDNA. This is the first report of a correlation between gene activation and adenine demethylation in a eukaryotic organism.
