    Notes: Transparent TiO2 thin film photocatalysts have been prepared on silica glass plate by an ionized cluster beam (ICB) method. In order to improve the electronic properties of these photocatalysts, transition metal ions V+, Cr+, Mn+, Fe+) were implanted into the TiO2 thin films at high energy acceleration using an advanced metal ion-implantation technique. The combination of these ion beam techniques can allow us to prepare the TiO2 thin film photocatalysts which can work effectively under visible light (λ 〉 450 nm) and/or solar light irradiation. The investigation using XAFS and ab initio molecular calculation suggests that the substitution of octahedrally coordinated Ti ions in TiO2 lattice with implanted metal ions is important to modify TiO2 to be able to adsorb visible light and operate under visible light irradiation.

    Description / Table of Contents: Mit Hilfe der Differentialkalorimetrie (DSC) wurde die Kristallisation von Polyvinyli-denfluorid aus der Schmelze sowohl unter isothermen Bedingungen als auch beim Abkühlen mit verschiedenen Geschwindigkeiten untersucht. Die Auswertung ergab, daß in beiden Fällen homogene Keimbildung mit dreidimensionalem Wachstum der kristallisierenden Einheiten vorlag. Die Schmelzkurven wurden in verschiedenen Stadien der isothermen Kristallisation aufgenommen. Sie lassen erkennen, daß während der Kristallisation ein Dickenwachstum der Kristalle erfolgt, das besser durch die Temperungstheorie als durch eine molekulare Fraktionierung erklärt werden kann.
    Notes: The dynamic cooling and the isothermal crystallizations of poly(vinylidene fluoride) from the melt were investigated using a differential scanning calorimeter. In both the dynamic cooling and isothermal crystallizations, the kinetic treatments indicated that during the crystallization of poly(vinylidene fluoride) the nucleation proceeds homogeneously and the growth occurs three dimensionally. The melting curves were recorded at various stages of the isothermal crystallization, and the thickening of lamellar crystals was observed, which can be explained more reasonably by the annealing theory than by the molecular fractionation theory.

    Notes: The polyolefins, especially polypropylene and polyethylene, industry of today is very different from that of 10 years ago. The development of highly active and stereospecific catalysts, represented by Ti/Mg supported catalysts, have made the gas-phase polymerization process practical.The trend in catalyst development is shifting from an emphasis on improving the stereospecificity and activity toward improving the polymer physical properties, processability and morphology.Many hybrid thermoplastic olefins, such as high-impact copolymers, propylene-ethylene-butene terpolymers, and very low density polyethylene, have already been developed by utilizing the features of the gas-phase polymerization process.These hybrid thermoplastic olefins cover a very broad range of products. They cannot be clearly identified as polyethylenes, polypropylenes or elastomers.Incidentally, metallocene catalysts for polyolefins have been under development for the past 15 years, and are now in the early stage of commercialization. These catalysts differ significantly from the conventional heterogeneous catalysts.They can polymerize not only ethylene, propylene and other linear α-olefins, but also styrene, cycloolefins and functional monomers In addition, they can control the microstructure of polymer molecules by varying the transition metals and the cyclopentadienyl ligands.Because of these features, we have to be confident that the development of metallocene catalysts, or more widely homogeneous catalysts, may be a dominant force throughout the 1990s in the polyolefin industries.
