Description / Table of Contents: Chemistry of Sulfur Diimides, IV1). - Dehydrogenations by N,N′-Bis(p-toluenesulfonyl)- sulfur DiimideN,N′-Bis(p-toluenesulfonyl)sulfur diimide (1) dehydrogenates hydrazo compounds to azo compounds, hydroquinones and pyrocatechol to quinones, thiols to disulfides and dihydronaphthalenes to naphthalenes, in most cases under mild conditions. The reaction of 1 with benzyl alcohols and oximes resembles an SNi- or SNi′-process.

Description / Table of Contents: Chemistry of Sulfur Diimides V - Reaction of N,N′-Ditosylsulfur Diimide with Nucleophilic and Electrophilic ReagentsN,N′-Ditosylsulfur diimide (1) reacts smoothly with organic sulfides as nucleophilic reagents. The structure of the products and the mechanism of their formation are discussed. If the SN bond in 1 possessed ylid character, a reactivity towards electrophilic reagents could be foreseen. This is not observed.

Description / Table of Contents: Chemistry of Sulfur Diimides, VI.- Ene Reactions and [2 + 2]-Cycloadditions of N,N′-Ditosyl Sulfur Diimide and N-Sulfinyl-p-toluenesulfonamidePropene derivatives react with N,N′-ditosyl sulfur diimide (1) with formation of allylsulfin- amidines, which rearrange easily to N-allyl-N,N′-thiobis(sulfonamides). In the reaction of 1 with vinyl ethers, [2 + 2]-cycloaddition occurs. If there is an allylic CH-group in the vinyl ether, the initially formed adduct is transformed into N-allyl-N,N′-thiobis(sulfonamide) derivatives.

Description / Table of Contents: 1,6-Cyclization of Phenyliminomethylimino Cumulenes: Formation of Quinazoline DerivativesThe reaction of N2-arylamidines 1 with N-tosylisocyanodichloride gives the quinazoline derivatives 5. Addition of the compounds 1 to chloral followed by treatment with acetic anhydride yields the quinazolines 9, 10 and 13.
