Family Planning Technicians were added to the hospital staff to supplement multimedia family planning education in an impatient setting. Staff believed that family planning information could be offered the patient on the ward as a routine hospital service, ordered by the physician, and provided at a convenient time during the hospital stay. Women with whom the patients could easily identify were chosen and trained for their new roles. The service was designed to meet the needs of patients and hospital staff. The new service has become an integral part of the hospital. This report summarizes the first year's experience.
