Notes: Polymer-polymer and polymer-solvent Flory-Huggins interaction parameters are given for the systems polystyrene/poly(methyl vinyl ether), polystyrene/solvent, and poly(methyl vinyl ether)/solvent. In principle polymer-polymer interaction should be independent of the solvent probes used. In this study it was found that polymer-polymer interaction is influenced by the solvent probe. These influences are discussed as a function of the chemical nature of the interacting vapour phase. However, these effects are not decisive for the phase behaviour of polymer blends. Phase separation was observed at high temperature. Gas chromatography measurements facilitated a quantitative thermodynamic description of the system polystyrene/poly(methyl vinyl ether) over a wide range of temperature and composition.

Notes: Polymers containing azo groups and CC-double bonds were crosslinked by heating to the temperature at which cleavage of the azo functions covalently linked to the polymer backbone takes place. The crosslinking process was characterized by swelling experiments and by DSC. From the reaction enthalpy the number of polymer chains initiated by one radical was estimated. Swelling experiments and DSC showed that the crosslinking efficiency of the radicals increases with the temperature at which the azo groups are split off and with the instability of the radicals. Polymers containing also functions with different thermostability were used for selective stepwise network formation.

Description / Table of Contents: Peroxidisch vernetzter Poly(cis-1,4-isopren)-latex and Mikrogele sowie unvernetztes Poly(cis-1,4-isopren) wurden durch Oxidation mit 3-Chlorperbenzoesäure bzw. H2O2 epoxidiert.
Notes: Poly(cis-1,4-isoprene) microgels and crosslinked natural rubber latex as well as noncrosslinked poly(cis-1,4-isoprene) were epoxidized by means of 3-chloroperbenzoic acid and H2O2, respectively.Epoxidation of the latex leads to homogeneous functionalized polymer particles whereas the feature of the microgels which were obtained from the reaction in organic phase is a shell-like profile of epoxidation. By variation the time of exposure of the microgels to the organic solvent prior to the epoxidation reaction, different profiles of epoxidation in the microspheres could be achieved.
