Conclusions The following conclusions can be formulated, reflecting the present-day approach to the resolution of problems of safety control for atomic power plants in the USSR. 1. The possibilities of safety control are manifold and depend on the concrete conditions. 2. Measures to ensure the safety of atomic power plants are being intensified with the change in the scale of nuclear power and the character of the use of nuclear energy plants. 3. There are numerous ways of building up technical means making it possible to raise safety to the required level in changing the objective conditions of operation of atomic power plants constructed earlier. Thus, there is no basis for imposing limitations on nuclear power for safety consideration and its development can proceed on the scales required by national economic plans with a broad entry into new areas of application. The necessary adequate efforts should be undertaken to resolve safety problems, which was characteristic of all previous stages in the development of nuclear power and even favorably distinguished it from other forms of technical activity by man.
