Summary The basic idea behind this article is that to give satisfactory explanations of several economic and demographic phenomena it it necessary to analyse them together within the context of a simultaneous model. The model presented contains ten endogenous variables and is estimated on the basis of a regional cross-section of Dutch data by means of a simultaneous logit analysis. The endogenous variables are mean income level, income inequality, unemployment rate, the fraction of the labour force that is working in the tertiary sector, labour force participation of men, labour force participation of women, fertility rate, child quality, the fraction of men that are married and the fraction of women that are married.
