Notes: Abstract The Cherenkov radiation of generalized Swihart waves is investigated in connection with the slow motion of an Abrikosov-Josephson vortex, which corresponds to a 2 π kink in the phase difference of Cooper pairs on opposite sides of a tunnel junction. The radiative friction force acting on such a vortex is determined. An evaluation is made of the steady-state vortex velocity when the accelerating influence of an electric current through the Josephson junction is compensated by radiative slowing of the vortex due to Cherenkov radiation from the Abrikosov-Josephson vortex.

Notes: Abstract The experimental data for a series of ferromagnets are analyzed to determine quantitatively the magnetoelasticity-reduced effects of thermal phonons on the magnetic properties of ferromagnets. It is shown that thermal phonons have an anomalously strong effect on the magnetic properties of Invar iron-platinum alloys. The effect is governed by shear magnetoelasticity.

Notes: Abstract The polarization of the high harmonics generated in plasmas by the bremsstrahlung of electrons oscillating under the influence of high-power plasma-heating electromagnetic radiation is described on the basis of a simple model of a cold plasma. It is shown that when the polarization of the heating radiation differs from plane polarization by a small but finite amount, the high harmonics are generated with almost perpendicular polarization, and the degree of circular polarization of the harmonics increases with the number of the harmonic.

Notes: Abstract We investigate the Weibel instability in a plasma with a nonstationary three-temperature electron distribution generated by inverse bremsstrahlung of an intense elliptically polarized electromagnetic wave. We show that electron-ion collisions in this strong high frequency field are simultaneously the cause of the development of the instability and the reason it is suppressed. We find plasma and radiation parameters for which spontaneous quasistationary solenoidal electromagnetic fields can increase by many times.

Notes: Abstract New solutions of one-dimensional nonlocal Josephson electrodynamics are proposed that describe the steady and nonsteady Abrikosov-Josephson vortex states of the resistive model; these solutions are based on the superposition principle of the vortex structures whose properties are determined by the nonlinear interaction of the vortices. The stability of the current-voltage characteristic (1.13) is shown and the relaxation-oscillation mode of establishing the corresponding state is investigated. The laws governing the annihilation and dispersal of the interacting Abrikosov-Josephson vortices are examined.

Notes: Abstract A theory of stimulated Brillouin scattering (STBS) in a plasma with ion-acoustic turbulence is developed using concepts of parametric instability under conditions when equations of two-temperature hydrodynamics can be used to describe ion-acoustic perturbations of the electron density. The temporal growth rate of the absolute instability and the spatial gain of the scattered wave are determined. The dependence of the threshold density of the radiation flux on the angle between the scattering wave vector and the direction of anisotropy of the turbulent noise is described. A new effect of STBS forbiddenness caused by anomalous turbulent heating of the ions is predicted for a plasma with a high level of turbulent noise.

Notes: Abstract Transport equations are obtained in the nine-moment approximation for plasmas in intense radiation fields where the amplitude of the electron oscillations in the electromagnetic field exceeds the thermal speed. It is shown that for plasmas with a high degree of ionization, Z, the electron thermal conductivity is higher by approximately a factor of Z. The change in the frictional force on electrons colliding with ions owing to the effect of the radiation field leads to the possibility of electron acceleration and to a change in the sign of the dc and low-frequency electrical conductivities.

Notes: Abstract In this paper we evaluate theoretically the modification of the distribution function of slow subthermal electrons heated by radiation in a completely ionized plasma. The new solution we have found to the kinetic equation under conditions typical of weak-collisional plasmas can be used to predict new nonlinear behavior arising from perturbations of the nonuniform electron density and the coefficient of nonlocal heat transfer that depend on the intensity of the radiation heating the plasma, which is absorbed via inverse bremsstrahlung. It is predicted that this new nonlinear behavior manifests itself at unexpectedly small radiation intensities.

Notes: Abstract We give a theoretical description of the mechanisms underlying the generation of harmonics of plasma-warming radiation, which depend on the polarization of the latter. We show that there is a striking anomaly in the polarization of the harmonics in the presence of a low degree of circular polarization of the pump, and that harmonic generation efficiency increases. Variations in the polarization of the pump accompanying inverse bremsstrahlung absorption are discussed.
