Notes: Hall effect, deep level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) and optical absorption measurements were employed in concert to determine the position of the vanadium acceptor level in vanadium and nitrogen doped 6H and 4H SiC. Hall effect results indicate that the acceptor position in 4H SiC is at 0.80 eV beneath the conduction band edge, and 0.66 eV for the 6H polytype. The DLTS signature of the defect in the 4H polytype showed an ionization energy of 0.80 eV and a capture cross section of 1.8×10−16 cm−2. The optical absorption measurements proved that the levels investigated are related to isolated vanadium, and therefore the vanadium acceptor level. Based on the DLTS measurements and secondary ion mass spectroscopy data, the maximum solubility of vanadium in SiC was determined to be 3.0×1017 cm−3. At these incorporation limits and with the depth of the level, the vanadium acceptor level could be used in the creation of semi-insulating silicon carbide. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract The electrochemical process of intercalation-deintercalation of sulphuric acid into chromium trioxidegraphite intercalation compounds (CrO3-GICs) has been studied using 12 M H2SO4. It is shown that the anodic oxidation reactions of CrO3-GICs and cathodic reduction of the product of anodization are different when compared to those occurring in the pure graphite. The differences in the slow cyclic potentiodynamic curves, depending on the method of preparation of CrO3-GICs, are considered. The practical implications of the electrochemical transformation of CrO3-GIC for battery applications are shown.

Notes: Abstract A sudden cathodic jump appearing on the potentiodynamic curves during subsequent electrochemical intercalation of 18 M sulphuric acid into chromium trioxide-graphite intercalation compounds (CrO3-GICs) is preserved for CrO3-GICs heated at a temperature lower than that of the decomposition of the intercalate, but vanishes completely after CrO3-GICs are thermally transformed into the physical mixture of graphite and lower chromium oxides. The results have shown that CrO3-GICs can be prepared, not only by the solvent method but also by the impregnation-dry method. Using a potentiodynamic technique involving the thermal modification of CrO3-GICs it has been possible to demonstrate the presence of an intercalation phase for CrO3-GICs which have unclear X-ray diffraction patterns.

Notes: Abstract The Liapunov technique has been introduced in differential games in a sequence of works over the last decade. We discuss application of this technique to the interface between two competitive semi-games, each with different qualitative objective. The feedback information for controllers is provided from designed, analytically integrable state predictors with reduced dynamics, which considerably shortens the computing time. The case is illustrated on the scenario of target reaching before being intercepted, and intercepting before target is reached.

Notes: Abstract The changes resulting from the compression of graphite-CrO3 intercalation compounds are demonstrated in the TG curves. In comparison with the samples examined in the form of a flake bed, the compacted compounds begin to decompose at lower temperatures and their weight loss is higher, particularly above 220 °C. To explain the obtained results, the pressure-induced changes in the structures and the activities of the compounds are considered in relation to the method of intercalation, the concentration of the intercalant and the extent of exfoliation.

Notes: Abstract Modified DTA curves (MDTA) have been used to elucidate the mechanism of oxidation of the graphitized active carbon-manganese oxide catalyst system in a static air atmosphere. It was found that the method is a very useful tool when the DTA curves give disputable results, especially after passing through the exothermic peak. From the DTA curves two different mechanisms of oxidation were proposed, depending on the manganese oxide content.
