    Notes: Abstract. We report a paediatric case of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with secondary breast involvement. On US exam there were bilateral multiple well-defined masses. Contrast-enhanced thorax CT demonstrated the breast lesions as well as enhancing masses. To our knowledge, this type of lymphomatous breast involvement in a child is rare and its CT features are very rarely demonstrated.

    Notes: Abstract. Internal biliary fistulas (IBF) are seen rarely. Because the symptoms and signs of IBF are not specific and the diagnosis is not suspected, these patients are commonly investigated with plain abdominal films (PAF), ultrasonography (US), upper gastrointestinal series (UGIS), barium enema (BE), and computed tomography (CT), but not always with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The purposes of this article are (a) to attract attention of radiologists to presumptive findings of IBF, so as not to misdiagnose this unsuspected and rare disease, and (b) review of the literature while presenting radiologic features of our cases. Five cases of IBFs in which extrahepatic biliary tree communicating with duodenum (four cases) and colon (one case) are reported. Diagnostic work-up of cases were done by PAF, US, UGIS, BE, and CT. Aerobilia, which cannot be explained using other means, ectopic gallstone and small bowel dilatation, nonvisualization of the gallbladder despite no history of cholecystectomy, and thick-walled shrunken gallbladder adherent to neighboring organs were suggestive findings of IBF in our study. Knowledge of imaging findings suggestive of IBF and a high index of suspicion increase the diagnostic rate of IBFs.

    Notes: Abstract Soil acidification impacts arising from depositions of industrial air emissions may become a serious environmental concern. Currently, in the literature quantitative mechanistic modeling and the experimental acid neutralizing capacity (ANC) approach and a qualitative evaluation approach classifying soils into various levels of sensitivity to acid additions have been reported to assess the long-term soil acidification impacts due to industrial air emissions. Another alternative quantitative approach proposed by this study is the geochemical modeling approach that can be used to similate an ANC curve based on relevant soil chemistry data by calculating the equilibrium distributions of chemical species in the soil solution according to the specified geochemical processes. The purpose of this syudy was essentially to illustrate the potential applications and practical utility of the proposed geochemical modeling approach to assessing soil acidification impacts due to industrial air emissions. The application of the geochemical modeling apprach was illustrated by comparisons of the experimental and simulated ANC curves for a calcareous and a noncalcareous soil representing insensitive and sensitive soil cases, respectively. Results obtained from these comparisons reveal that, in terms of producing the ANC curve for the soil solution, the geochemical modeling approach seems to perform well and produce more reliable results for calcareous soil than for noncalcareous soil. However, the approach can also be used for noncalcareous soils when the air emission rates are low and may need further testing with additional measured data for a wide range of soils other than those presented in this study.

    Notes: The hydraulic characteristics and the denitrifying capacity of a single-stage 0.5 m diam completely submerged rotating biological contactor were studied. A two compartment model was proposed and fitted the data obtained from pulse dye applications at two different flow rate. Denitrification rates with an influent C:N ratio at 1.5:1 proved to be independent of NO3 + NO2-N concentration. The pooled denitrification data obtained under the two different flow rates could be fitted by an Arrhenius relationship for temperature over the range of 5 to 25°C. The activation energy was 16500 cal/g-mol. A substantially higher volumetric removal capacity was observed than has previously been reported for either suspended or supported denitrifying systems.
