PM-NR, plasma membrane-bound nitrate reductase

Activities of plasma membrane-bound nitrate reductase (PM-NR) and cytosolic nitrate reductase (cNR) in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Samsun) are regulated differently, depending upon the nitrate supply to the culture medium (in sand culture). The cNR activity of roots was higher at low nitrate concentrations with the maximum at 5 mM nitrate supply and declined to low values beyond 5 mM. In contrast, the PM-NR activity of roots increased with higher nitrate concentrations with the maximum at 25 mM nitrate and clearly decreased only at 40 mM. This high PM-NR activity correlated with a low growth rate and might be one of the responses to excess nitrate. Internal nitrate and total nitrogen content of the tissues, however, showed a relative minimum in shoots and in roots of between 15 and 25 mM external nitrate. With declining PM-NR activities beyond 25 mM external nitrate, the nitrate content in the tissue increased indicating an inverse relationship between tissue nitrate content and root PM-NR activity. In leaves both NR activities (cNR and PM-NR) correlated with the internal nitrate content, but with a different response at low nitrate.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Zusammenfassung Es wird über 45 Operationen beim Carpaltunnel-Syndrom und über 15 Operationen beim Tarsaltunnel-Syndrom berichtet. Beide Nervenkompressions-Syndrome treten gehäuft posttraumatisch auf. Die klinische Diagnostik und die notwendige neurologische Untersuchung mit EMG wird dargestellt. Die Therapie der Wahl besteht in perineuraler Dekompression; die operative Technik wird beschrieben. Alle nachuntersuchten Patienten waren beschwerdefrei.
    Notizen: Summary A report is given of 45 operations of the carpal and 15 of the tarsal tunnel. Both nerve-compression syndromes can often be found post-traumatically. The clinical diagnosis and necessary neurological examination (EMG) are demonstrated. The therapy of choice is perineural decompression; the operative technique is described. None of the patients examined at follow-up had any complaints.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Zusammenfassung Anhand der Literatur und eigenen Erfahrungen von 58 Operationen wird das Tarsaltunnelsyndrom besprochen. Gerade bei unklaren Beschwerden im Fußbereich sollte nach einem Trauma im distalen Unterschenkel- und Fußbereich an ein Kompressionssyndrom des Nervus tibialis gedacht werden. Aetiologie, klinisches Bild und Therapie werden dargestellt. Bei leichten Fällen ohne EMG-Veränderungen empfiehlt sich die konservative Therapie, bei Versagen oder bei eindeutigen EMG-Veränderungen die operative Therapie mit perineuraler Dekompression.
    Notizen: Summary The tarsal tunnel syndrome shall be discussed in view of the available literature as well as experience derived from 58 operative procedures. A compression syndrome of the tibial nerve should always be considered in cases of pain of the foot after trauma to the lower extremity and foot. The etiology, clinical presentation and treatment shall be described. Conservative therapy is indicated in mild cases with no accompanying EMG alterations, whereas operative treatment and perineural decompression is required for those cases resistant to conservative measures or those with EMG alterations.

In this film the following advantages are shown: 1. Safer walking by virtue of a wider walking surface 2. Better physiological rocking, eliminating jarring 3. Improved protection of the plaster cast in bad weather conditions 4. Easy changing of the overshoe.
