Single crystals of BaCN2, prepared from BaCO3 and HCN at 650°C, were examined by x-ray methods. The crystal structure is orthorhombic with a = 8.60, b = 10,19 and c = 12.97 Å, symmetry group Pn21a or Pnma. A second modification of BaCN2, formed at lower temperature, is also orthorhombic with a = 11.86, b = 20.54 and c = 7.45 Å, space group C2ca or Cmca; it can be described as pseudohexagonal.

Einkristalle von BaCN2, das aus BaCO3 und HCN bei 650°C hergestellt wurde, wurden röntgenographisch untersucht. Die Struktur ist rhombisch mit a = 8,60, b = 10,19 und c = 12,97 Å, Symmetriegruppe Pn21a oder Pnma. Eine zweite, bei niedrigerer Temperatur gebildete Modifikation von BaCN2 ist ebenfalls rhombisch mit a = 11,86, b = 20,54 und c = 7,45 Å, Raumgruppe C2ca oder Cmca; sie läßt sich als pseudohexagonal beschreiben.
