Notes: 1. Both sexes of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were used in this study.2. At 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54 and 60 weeks old, tibia length (L), volume (V), dry weight (DW), bone mineral density (BMD) in tibia and serum biochemical parameters (Ca2+, Ca, iP, ALP, TRAP) were measured.3. At the 18 and 48 weeks old, bone morphometry was performed (mineral apposition rate, trabecular bone volume and trabecular thickness). Serum PTH and osteocalcin level were determined in 18 week old rats.4. The time course change of DW, L and V were almost the same as the trends of bodyweight in each group, namely, male SD had the highest value, female SD and male SHR showed the same value and the lowest figures were obtained in female SHR.5. BMD of the middle area showed almost the same trends with the time course change of bodyweight. On the other hand, both sexes of SHR had lower BMD than that of SD in the proximal area.6. Serum biochemical parameters showed the same trends in both sexes of SD and SHR except for ALP (a marker of bone formation) which was higher in male than in female rats.7. Mineral apposition rate, trabecular bone volume and trabecular thickness were not different between the same sex of SD and SHR.8. These findings suggest that trabecular bone in SHR had a lower mineral status than that of SD rats not only in the adult but also in the young. This alteration may due to the abnormal mineralization mechanisms.

Notes: Abstract A new method for easily and rapidly generating three-dimensional shapes from two-dimensional line-drawings is presented. This method is based on the generalized symmetry constraint. Generalized symmetry is an extended concept of threedimensional symmetry and its axis is a 3D smooth curve. This paper first develops the definition and constraint of generalized symmetry, and then describes an algorithm which generates the three-dimensional shape of an object from its linedrawing. The generation algorithm is extended to generate generalized cylindrical objects from line-drawings. Several experiments by computer simulation verify that the algorithm can generate three-dimensional shapes from line-drawings.

Notes: The objective of this study was to evaluate cell adhesion and proliferation on the hydroxyapatite (HAp)-coated silk fibroin (SF) fabric. Nano-scaled sintered HAp particles were covalently coated on SF chemically modified by graft polymerization. After the fabrication of the HAp/SF composite, mesenchymal cells (MCs) derived from EGFP-expressing transgenic rat bone marrow were seeded on the composite and cultured for 10 days. Fluorescence and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the cells adhered and actively proliferated on the composites comparable to those on tissue culture polystyrene (TCPS) dishes. The results suggest that the composites are suitable formesenchymal cell culture scaffolds and useful materials for regenerative medicine

Notes: Abstract This paper introduces the Precise Rendering Method, which generates accurately anti-aliased and highlighted images from tessellated polygons. The Precise Rendering Method first solves the aliasing problems of hidden surface removal by using the Cross Scanline Algorithm. This algorithm can exactly calculate polygon areas projected onto each pixel by using horizontal and vertical scanlines. Aliasing artifacts in shading are then prevented by the Reflection Intergration Method, which analytically integrates the intensity of reflection in the solid angle defined by surface normals at vertices of the projected area. Several synthesized images are created to show the efficiency of the Precise Rendering Method.
