Notes: A self-consistent calculation of the barrier height and of the effective recombination velocity at a dislocation has been performed. The procedure has taken account of the bending of the minority carrier quasi-Fermi level across the dislocation space-charge region and in the quasineutral region and of the nonrigid displacement of the dislocation energy levels. The dislocation energy states are considered to be uniformly distributed in a half-filled band. The continuity equation around the dislocation has been solved for the case of a low-level electron beam injection and the electron beam induced current and cathodoluminescence contrasts at the dislocation have been derived.

Notes: Abstract It is generally admitted that the many-electron effects govern the shape of the discrete X-ray line and photoemission spectra. This phenomenon has been studied in bulk metals (Mahan, Nozières and de Dominicis model) where it is characterized by two effects: the Anderson orthogonality between the initial and final ground states and the $$|E|^{\alpha _H - 1} $$ spectrum behaviour, whereE is the emitted particle energy defect (with respect to the one-electron energy) and α H (with 0〈α H 〈1) and exponent related to the phase shifts δ at the Fermi level due to the localised hole potential. We study these two effects in limited media (closed loop shape withN=10 to 30 atoms). We observe that, asN increases, the ground state overlap tends toward zero in a way which is surprisingly close to the Anderson $$N^{ - \alpha _H /2} $$ behaviour. TheE spectra are also obtained. They are very different from the bulk which will lead to asymmetry parameters smaller for aggregates than for the bulk. A discussion of the experimental results is presented.

Notes: Abstract We present a theoretical study of the electronic properties of some Cn aggregates : C3, C20, C24, C28, C60 ; C3 is linear, the others are polyhedrons. Our calculation includes all the valence electrons. A one-electron description is first developed, then we include intraatomic correlations by using a second order perturbative treatment introduced by J. Friedel for sp v hybridized systems.

Notes: Abstract The Hubbard hamiltonian (where only intraatomic correlations between fermions are taken into account) is particularly well suited for the description of3He systems. It has already been used in the description of point defects (such as spin polarons) in the bulk. The variational Gutzwiller method is one of the most useful way for treating the Hubbard hamiltonian. This technique has been applied with success by Vollhardt to the bulk. We apply it here to aggregates. Our main results are the following: 1 existence of a critical size,N c , above which3He n begin to be stable; 2 calculation of the magnetic susceptibility. In this part two cases are studied: low magnetic field where only the density of states, σ(E F), at the Fermi level is needed and high magnetic field where the whole density of states is needed. The results are compared with other theoretical calculations.

Notes: Abstract In a first part, we present experimental results on Si n Au m p+ and Ge n Au m /p+ produced by the Liquid Metal Ion Source methods (LMIS). In these experiments the liquid tips are SiAu and GeAu eutectic alloys. We compare our results with LMIS experiments made on pure liquid tips and also with data given in the literature. Among the results, we note that GeAu m + exhibit an interesting alternating behaviour. In a second part, we give a quantum mechanical description of Si m p+ properties. In the range 20≲n≲40 these ions show a Δn=6 periodic behaviour. Such an effect is also observed by LMIS on Ge n Emphasis〉3+ and Sn n + aggregates. Our geometries are fragment of Zintl phase lattices (formula K8Si46 or K8Ge46). In these lattices the elementary cell is a regular array of 5-atom and 6-atom rings and the studied fragments have an integer number of rings.
