Zusammenfassung Gewebeteile aus ausgewählten Gelbpappel-Stämmen wurden hinsichtlich der Gefügeunterschiede im Xylemgewebe innerhalb des jeweiligen Stammes genau durchmustert. Die Gewebeteile wurden vom Stammfuß bis zum Zopfende und vom Mark bis zur Rinde geprüft. Die Abweichungen von Faserlänge, Gefäßvolumen und Markstrahlvolumen innerhalb eines Stammes werden dargestellt und deren Wechselbeziehungen sowie ihr Zusammenhang mit dem Baumalter, der Wuchsgeschwindigkeit und der Rohdichte werden aufgezeigt.

Summary Selected trees were intensively examined for within-tree differences of xylem elements and their organization; i.e. elements were examined from the base of the tree to the top and from the pith to the bark. The within-tree variation patterns of fiber length, vessel volume, and ray volume are reported and the interrelationship of these properties, as well as their correlation with age, growth rate, and specific gravity, are presented.
