Conclusions 1. A study was made of the oxidation of atactic polypropylene in the presence of 3,6-di-tert-butyl- and 3,5-dicumylpyrocatechol at 160–220°. 2. Substituted pyrocatechols are efficient antioxidants at ≤180°, but the conversion products of the starting antioxidants play the main role in inhibiting the oxidation process. 3. 3,6-Di-tert-butyl-1,2-benzoquinone is capable of reacting with atactic polypropylene, and is converted to 3,6-di-tert-butylpyrocatechol.
