    Notes: The dependence of polymer-solute interactions on temperature In the range was 66 to 96°C was studied by inverse gas chromatography (IGC). A correlation equation was developed for estimation of the specific retention volume of nonpolar and slightly polar solutes in polybutadiene (PBD). Using equation of state solution theory, thermodynamic interaction was discussed in terms of contact energy and equation of state contributions in polybutadiene/solute systems. It was found that equation of state theory serves better than the Flory-Huggins theory as a comprehensive model to describe the temperature dependence of thermodynamic interaction.

    Notes: Solubility data of organic probes in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polyisobutylene (PIB) obtained by inverse gas chromatography (IGC) were collected from the literature and analyzed. Applying the principle of corresponding states, empirical correlations were derived and presented for the estimation of solubilities of nonpolar and slightly polar probe molecules in these polymers. Estimation of other thermodynamic properties, such as activity coefficient of the solute, Henry's law constant, Flory-Huggins interaction parameter, and heat of solution through the use of these correlation equations, was demonstrated.

    Notes: The phase behavior of narrow molecular weight distribution samples of polystyrene and polyisoprene in the presence of toluene was investigated by means of gel permeation chromatography. Equilibrium phase diagrams, tie lines, and critical points for a number of partially miscible polystyrene-polyisoprene-toluene systems were generated at 15 and 30°C and 1 atm pressure. The data were combined with previously reported results at 45°C. Using the experimentally determined phase compositions along with literature values of the polymer-solvent interaction parameters, the polymer-polymer interaction parameters were evaluated using the Flory-Huggins theory. The influence of temperature, polymer molecular weight, and polymer-solvant interaction parameters on the size, shape, and location of the equilibrium phase curve, the location of the critical point, and the polymer-polymer interaction parameter was studied.
