    Notes: Silver promoted nickel catalysts supported on diatomite were prepared by precipitationmethod. Characterization of the catalysts prepared with different silver contents (0.1-4.0 wt%)included AAS, XRD, Hg porosimetry, BET and H2 chemisorption measurements. The catalyticactivity and selectivity were tested by soybean oil (SBO) hydrogenation under pressure of hydrogenof 0.16 MPa at 160 °C. Fatty acids (FA) contained in hydrogenated SBO were analysed by gaschromatography. Trans fatty acid (TFA) content in hydrogenated SBO varied considerablydepending of the silver content in prepared catalysts

    Notes: The nanostructure and textural properties of acid-activated bentonite clays from theBogovina coalmine were investigated. The acid activation was performed with HCl in the concentration range 1.5-7.5 M. The atomic force microscopy followed by image analysis was used in order to establish the influence of the acid treatment on the size of bentonite particles. Nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms at -196 °C were used to estimate the specific surface area, pore volume and pore size distribution. The acid treatment reduces the size of bentonite particles and increases the specific surface area and pore volume of the investigated bentonites. These effects are improved by increasing the acid concentration up to 4.5 M HCl. Further increase in acid concentration does not result in development of new porous structure

    Notes: Crystalline calcium titanate was synthesized by mechanical activation of a mixture ofCaO, obtained by thermal treatment of CaCO3, and TiO2 in anatase or rutile form, in a planetary ball mill for 30, 60, 120 and 240 min.. The effect of milling on the solid-state reaction was followed by X-ray diffraction. Changes in powder size and morphology due to milling were determinate by SEM, while BET analysis was made to determine the specific surface area of powders. It was pointed out that the formation of calcium titanate was more easily achieved by mechanical activation synthesis of the mixture of calcium oxide and anatase modification of titanium oxidecompared to the rutile form

    Notes: Abstract Adsorption of strontium ions on synthetic hydroxyapatite was examined using both batch and column methods. The apatite was prepared from aqueous solutions and characterized by standard analytical methods. The sample obtained had characteristics of well crystallized stoichiometric hydroxyapatite. The experimental data for sorption of strontium can be very well fitted with Langmuir's adsorption isotherm. It was found that sorption occurs by an ion exchange reaction between strontium ions in solution and calcium ions in apatite.

    Notes: Abstract The sorption of radioactive strontium by poorly crystalline hydroxyapatite (HA) obtained by the transformation of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) at initial pH 10.8, was investigated. Morphological analysis, performed by transmission electron microscopy, has demonstrated that the solid phase consists of nanometer size ultra-micro particles connected into spherical aggregates. A maximum sorption capacity, determined as the asymptote of the sorption isotherm was Γ=(3.8±0.3)·10−2mol Sr/mol P. Based on this result and the structural conditions, a possible theoretical explanation for the incorporation of a strontium ion into the apatite lattice has been proposed.

    Notes: Abstract In spite of good adsorption characteristics of activated carbon for molecular iodine, from water solution, problems arising due to complexity of chemistry of iodine and hydrolysis as well as influences of other relevant factors in water solutions which easily change the equilibrium concentrations toward domination of species with lower absorbability. Sorption of hypoiodus acid as predominant chemical form of iodine in neutral and weak alkaline solution within the range of micro concentrations has been studied in great details. In the experiments sorption of hypoiodous acid from water solutions on activated carbon with surface area of 1000 m2/g, under static and dynamic conditions, has been performed. Isotherms on various temperatures (25°C, 50°C, 70°C) has been obtained. Parameters of the sorption are determined and mechanism of adsorption of hypoiodous acid molecules on activated carbon has been discussed.

    Notes: Abstract The coprecipitation of strontium by a calcium phosphate phase formed at an elevated pH 10.8 was investigated. The first phase obtained under these conditions in the amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) which is transformed into crystalline hydroxyapatite (HA) after the induction period. Is has been shown that this transformation together with morphological changes of the precipitated solid phase, influences the amount of the sorbed strontium significantly. The possible consequences of this finding on practical application of coprecipitation of strontium by calcium phosphate have been discussed.

    Notes: Abstract The Fokker Planck equation was used to analyze the probability of the appearance of radionuclide impulses of any type. Distribution functions for the stationary state and conditions when different factors influence the impulse amplitude and duration are presented. A high degree of correlation was obtained between our results and an analysis of distribution functions of radioactivity and seismic noises in certain regions in Europe and Japan found in the literature. This presents a contribution to the further explanation of the mechanism of radioactivity changes in the near ground layers of air.
