Abstract Two different descriptions of the deviation of a real bicrystal fromthe singular coincidence grain boundary are compared. It isdemonstrated using the electron microscopy observations ofdislocation structure that the description derived from the requireddeviation with respect to the [001] tilt axis is not correct since itdoes not take into account the orientation of the boundary plane. Itis important that the twist part of the additional rotation can occuronly around the normal to the boundary plane.
