Molecular and Crystal Structures of μ-Methanediazo-(N, N, N′)-tris(tetracarbonylmanganese), Mn3(CO)12(CH3N2) and Nonacarbonyl-[μ-[methylenehydrazinecarboxyaldehydato(2-)-C1, N2:N1]]dimanganese, “Decacarbonyldiazomethanedimanganese”, Mn2(CO)10(CH2N2)The molecular structures of Mn3(CO)12(CH3N2) and Mn2 (CO)10(CH2N2) have been determined by means of X-ray structure analysis. The trinuclear complex represents a novel structure type of an alkyldiazo complex. The two nitrogen atoms of the ligand are coordinated to the three managanese atoms the latter being arranged to a triangle. The terminal nitrogen atom acts altogether as a 3-electron donor, the second as a 2-electron donor. The binuclear complex is the first example of a diazomethane molecule being coordinated to metal centers by way of its two nitrogen atoms. The terminal nitrogen atom is bound to a manganese and the carbon atom of a carbonyl group causing the formation of an acyl group, the second nitrogen atom is coordinated to the second manganese atom.
Notes:
