Notes: Summary Results of treating diabetic retinopathy by light-coagulation are reported. Early symptoms, e.g. microaneuryms, lipid deposits and retinal oedema, improved after light-coagulation. Coagulation during early phases of the disease prevented development of vascular proliferation, haemorrhages and retinal detachment. Where vascular proliferation and fibrous changes of the vitreous body were already present when the therapy was instituted, the further deleterious course was prevented in only a few cases.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wird eine neue Filmfunduskamera beschrieben.
Notes: Summary Demonstration of a new cinematographic fundus camera. Based on the fundus camera of Littmann a new combination has been developed with the use of the Xenon high pressure lamp. With this device 16 mm black- and-white or color film can be performed as well as fluorescein-angiography. The same apparatus can be used in combination with television-angiography. Technical details, clinical application and light intensity problems are discussed. The latter is calculated in regard to possible damage to the retina.

Notes: Abstract A 33-year-old woman underwent bone-marrow transplantation following radiation and chemotherapy for chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML); immunosuppressive therapy was continued for graft-versus-host disease. Five months after successful transplantation, she developed necrotizing retinitis in both eyes with rapid progression over the following weeks. Due to her immunosuppressed state the patient developed pneumonia and died. Postmortem evaluation of the retinal lesions in both eyes disclosed infection byToxoplasma gondii, which was also found in the brain and myocardium. Multiple viable toxoplasmic cysts were observed at the transition zone from a necrotic to a normal retina. Additionally, cysts ofToxoplasma gondii were seen in the adjacent intact retina and in areas of necrosis with almost complete absence of retinal or choroidal inflammation. Toxoplasmosis should therefore be considered along with fungi and viruses in the differential diagnosis of necrotizing retinochoroiditis in immunocompromised patients.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 71 Augen mit Morbus Coats wurden mit Lichtkoagulation behandelt.
Notes: Summary 71 eyes with Coats' disease were treated with photocoagulation. By coagulation of the abnormal vessels the disease process could be halted in 64 eyes over a mean observation time of 2 years and 3 months after completion of treatment. In 51 of these eyes the lipoid deposits regressed. In only 7 eyes a progression of the disease could not be prevented. Complications of photocoagulation treatment were not observed.

Notes: Abstract An unusual unilateral fundus lesion in a 16-year-old boy is described consisting of hyperpigmentation and presumed hypertrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium combined with malformation and thickening of the overlying sensory retina. Based on its clinical and histological characteristics, this lesion is considered to be a congenital retinal pigment epithelial malformation.
