Notes: The phase behavior of a hybrid polymer network (HPN) composed of poly[(propylene glycol maleate)-co-(propylene glycol phthalate)] crosslinked with styrene and polyester-urethane crosslinked with methylene-bis-ortho-chloroaniline was examined. The correlation between phase separation and impact strength of the HPNs is discussed. The composition of HPNs has an effect on their properties.

Notes: This paper describes a novel hydrogel based on crosslinked chitosan with glutaraldehyde interpenetrating polyether polymer network. The gel can hydrolyse in acid at 37°C due to the cleavage of imine bonds within the network. At pH≥7, there is no hydrolysis. The pH-dependent release of cimetidine from the gel was also investigated.

Notes: A novel hydrogel based on a crosslinked chitosan/gelatin with glutaraldehyde hybrid polymer network was prepared. The gel swells in acidic medium and deswells in alkaline medium. A comparative study of the pH-dependent release of levamisole, cimetidine and chloramphenicol was carried out.

Notes: pH responsive chitosan/gelatin hybrid polymer network (HPN) microspheres were prepared via the inverse emulsion crosslinking method. Cimetidine release from the microspheres was studied. The drug only delivers in acidic medium, while the release rate can be controlled by the HPN composition and the degree of deacetylation.

Notes: A polyacrylic network containing carboxyl groups was cross-linked with polyurethane. The dynamic contact angles (DCA) on specimens were estimated in water. The effect of ingredient ratio and average molecular M̄n of poly(oxypropylene glycol) (PPG) on DCA were investigated. Data obtained are correlated with 180° peel strength by using the polymer network as an adhesive to adhere both poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and polyethylene (PE) film. Results reveal that there is correlation of the surface response to bilateral adhesion of polar and nonpolar substrates. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: A polyester - urethane was synthesized by the reaction of 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate (TDI) with poly(butylene glycol adipate) (PBGAD) using 1,4-butanediol (BDO) as a chain extender. Atomic force microscopy was employed to examine the surface morphologies of polyurethane (PU) films formed by heat treatment as well as at room temperature. At both conditions the surface of the PU film appeared as a spherulitic structure with a varied diameter and vertical height. Furthermore, the crystalline structure of heat-treated film was denser than that of the film formed at ambient. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: This article deals with the synthesis and properties of poly[(propylene glycol maleate)-co-(propylene glycol phthalate)] diol (PGMPD)/polyester-urethane or polyether-urethane hybrid polymer networks (HPNs). The polyurethane type and the molar ratio of NCO/OH have an effect on their properties. The structure-property relationship is discussed as well. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: Acrylate copolymer composed of octadecyl acrylate (OA), 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate (2-EHA), hydroxythyl acrylate (HEA), and vinyl acetate (VA) was synthesized. The copolymer was used to adhere polyethylene (PE) with T-type peel, strength 4.4 N/cm. The interfacial characteristics of copolymer and PE were investigated via ATR-FTIR, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and dynamic contact angle (DCA). Results show that apolar moieties of the adhesive enrich on the interface. Moreover, the time dependence of peel strength coincides with that of enrichment in nonpolar moieties on the interface. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: A study was carried out on the variation in the electrical resistance of carbon fiber-reinforced unsaturated polyester/polyurethane (UP/PU) IPN composites during static tension, cyclical loading, and unloading in tension. The resistance was found to vary nonlinearly with strain and increase abruptly when the composite approached the fracture. Under a certain constant tension, the change in electrical resistance showed time dependece, and it is suggested that the creep of the IPN network imposed an impact on the variation of resistance. The resistance probing revealed that carbon fiber-reinforced plastic can function as a sensor that is capable of self-diagnosing the fatal fracture in composites. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
