    Notes: Abstract Roegneria grandis was hybridized withR. ciliaris var.japonensis (2n = 28, SSYY),Elymus caninus (2n = 28, SSHH), andPseudoroegneria spicata (2n = 28, SSSS). Chromosome pairing was studied in parents and hybrids. It is concluded from this study that: (i)R. grandis is an allotetraploid species and contains the basic genomes S and Y: (ii) a certain degree of homoeology exists between the S and Y genomes of the species studied.

    Notes: Abstract The morphology and meiotic behaviour of pollen mother cells were studied in hybrids involvingLeymus multicaulis (2n = 28) ×Psathyrostachys huashanica (2n = 14),L. multicaulis ×P. juncea (2n = 14), andL. secalinus (2n = 28) ×L. multicaulis. Chromosome pairing was almost identical in theL. multicaulis ×P. huashanica, andL. multicaulis ×P. juncea hybrids, in which it averaged 7.30 univalents + 6.69 bivalents + 0.096 trivalents and 7.48 univalents + 6.75 bivalents, respectively. The meiotic pairing in the two hybrids indicated that oneL. multicaulis genome was closely homologous with theP. huashanica andP. juncea genomes. BothP. huashanica andP. juncea are possibly donors of oneL. multicaulis genome. Chromosome pairing in theL. secalinus ×L. multicaulis hybrid averaged 4.49 univalents + 11.71 bivalents + 0.02 trivalents, indicating that the genomes ofL. multicaulis andL. secalinus are to some degree homologous. However, they are sufficiently differentiated to insure species distinctness.

    Notes: Abstract Kengyilia laxiflora (2n = 42) was cytogenetically studied with testersK. hirsuta (2n = 42, PPStStYY) andRoegneria kamoji (2n = 42, HHStStYY). Our data suggested thatK. laxiflora may possess a modified P genome, the P1. Its St and Y genomes may also contain some structural changes and are more closely related to the St and Y genomes ofK. hirsuta than to those ofR. kamoji. Kengyilia laxiflora is reproductively separated from bothK. hirsuta andR. kamoji. These results indicated thatK. laxiflora is a good species in the genusKengyilia.

    Notes: Abstract Morphological and cytological studies of three tetraploidRoegneria species,R. tenuispica, R. pendulina andR. ciliaris, and their artificial hybrids were carried out.Roegneria tenuispica was morphologically similar toR. pendulina. The general appearance of the interspecific hybrids was intermediate between the parents. The hybrids showed comparatively high chromosome pairing at meiosis, but were completely or almost completely sterile. The results indicate that the three independent species share two basic genomes (StY) and thatR. tenuispica is more closely related toR. pendulina than toR. ciliaris. The genomes ofR. tenuispica could be designated as S t t Yt.

    Notes: Abstract 1507 accessions from 93 species of 18 genera in Triticeae were screened for resistance to initial infection and resistance to pathogen spread with multi-floret and single-floret injection inoculation methods respectively. The accessions with high resistance were mainly found in perennial genera: Roegneria, Hystrix, Agropyron, Kengyilia and Elymus. Based on differences in resistance, 18 genera screened in Triticeae could be classified into five groups. The species with high resistance were mainly distributed in humid ecological environments.

    Notes: Abstract Kengyilia batalinii var. nana J.L. Yang, Yen et Baum, K. gobicola Yen et J.L. Yang, K. zhaosuensis J.L. Yang, Yen et Baum are short-lived perennial grasses of the family Triticeae distributed throughout the upper and middle mountain ranges of west China. They were cytogenetically studied with testers R. kamoji Ohwi (StStHHYY) and K. hirsuta (Keng) J. L. Yang, Yen et Baum (PPStStYY). Analysis of metaphase I pairing configurations in the F1 indicate that K. batalinii var. nana, K. gobicola, K. zhaosuensis possess the P, St, and Y genomes, with o nly minor structural rearrangements. These results showed that the three target taxa are good species in the genus Kengyilia.

    Notes: Abstract Cytogenetic studies of Hystrix duthiei (2n=28) from China, Hystrix longearistata (2n=28) from Japan and their artificial hybrids were carried out. The F1 hybrids showed a very high degree of bivalent pairing at the meiotic Metaphase-I. No multivalents were found. Partial fertility of the hybrids was observed. The results indicated that they shared two highly homologous genomes and were closely related.
