Notes: Many changes in neuronal gene expression occur in response to ischemia, and these may play a role in determining the fate of ischemic neurons. To identify genes induced in the rat brain following cerebral ischemia, a strategy was used that combines subtractive hybridization and differential screening. Among the genes identified was one referred to as global ischemia-inducible gene 11(Giig11). Sequence analysis indicated that Giig11 exhibited 97% and 91% identity to the known Ero1-L (S. cereviseae ero1-like oxidoreductase) of mouse and human origin, which is involved in oxidative endoplasmic reticulum protein folding. Rat Ero1-L/Giig11 also contains a l07-bp sequence that is nearly identical (〉 95%) to the known dispersed repetitive identifier (ID), but which is lacking in mouse and human Ero1-L. Northern blotting showed that expression of the ID element and Ero1-L/Giig11 mRNA increased after global cerebral ischemia. In situ hybridization demonstrated increased expression of Ero1-L/Giig11 in the brain following ischemic injury, with the highest levels in the vulnerable hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons. Transfection of cultured primary hippocampal neurons with a plasmid containing green fluorescent protein (gfp) and Ero1-L/Giig11 cDNA (with and without the ID element) produced a gfp-Ero1-L/Giig11 fusion protein, and more fusion protein was localized into dendrites in the presence of the ID element, suggesting that the ID element promotes Ero1-L/Giig11 protein localization to dendrites. Therefore, Ero-1L/Giig11 may have a role in ischemia-induced neuronal repair or survival mechanisms directed at counteracting abnormalities in protein folding, maturation and distribution.

Notes: For continuous composite beams that in normal working stage, due to concrete cracks at negative moment region are restricted by transverse tendon reinforcements at the slab, it would be reasonable to consider concrete contribution to the bending capacity of such composite beams. Based on this, a variable stiffness method is proposed in this paper to calculate the composite beam deflection. Before concrete slab cracks, the flexural stiffness (the maximum value) is calculated according to the reduced transformed beam section, with the consideration of concrete contribution; After concrete cracks, this stiffness value will be decreased as per the increase of the concrete crack, and at final stage, when concrete contribution to the flexural stiffness reach zero, the stiffness value reach it’s minimum value. The loads capacity at such maximum and minimum stiffness values could be considered as the beam capacity before concrete cracking as per current code, and the elastic moment capacity after concrete cracking respectively, while the stiffness between these maximum and minimum values could be determined by linear interpolation. The bending stiffness derived from this method has a higher precision than the method presented in current China specification in which the concrete contribution is totally neglected. Especially, this procedure would be more useful for those prestressed concrete composite beams, as they have higher crack- resistance capability

Notes: In this paper, the solution mainly containing Zn(H2PO4)2 was used to prepare phosphatingcoatings on AZ31,AZ61 and AZ91 magnesium alloys. The effects of the phosphating parameters andthe composition of phosphating solution on the formation of the coatings were investigated byorthogonal tests. The corrosion behaviors of the phosphating coatings were also studied and it isfound that there was no hydrogen evolution in at least 1h. In the last, 60~80μm organic coatingswere painted on the phosphated magnesium alloys, the organic coatings adhered to the phosphatingcoating, and the anti-corrosion abilities were improved
