The hydrolysis of disulphate is accelerated by neutral salts. This acceleration consists of at least two components: one which increases linearly with the concentration of the added salt, and a second which follows the mass action law. The linear component is assumed to result from a changing of the water structure, the second from the formation of (Men+aq … S2O72-) complexes. Organic solvents, tri- and tetraalkylammonium ions reduce the cation effect, and also, at higher concentrations, the anions of the added salts.

Die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit der Disulfathydrolyse wird durch Zusatz von Fremdsalzen erhöht. Diese Beschleunigung setzt sich aus mindestens zwei Komponenten zusammen: einer mit der Konzentration an zugesetztem Salz linear ansteigenden und einer dem Massenwirkungsgesetz folgenden. Die lineare Komponente wird mit Veränderung der Wasserstruktur, die zweite mit der Bildung von (Men+aq … S2O72-)-Komplexen erklärt. Organische Flüssigkeiten und Tri- und Tetraalkylammoniumionen setzen die Wirkung der Kationen herab. Ähnlich wirken bei höherer Konzentration auch die mit den Fremdsalzen eingebrachten Anionen.
