Summary A new method of counting platelets in the blood by means of an automatic particle counter is described. A 5-fold dilution of a blood sample of 1 ml with a Subtosan/ACD-mixture causes a rapid sedimentation of the red blood cells leaving more than 95% of the platelets in the supernatant fluid. The enumeration of the platelet's concentration in the supernatant fluid (suitably diluted) is easily possible by means of the counter. The standard deviation of this method is very small (±3%) compared with that of the usual methods of visual count (±11%); simultaneously it is possible to carry out a 3–4 fold number of determinations during the same time than with visual methods.

Zusammenfassung Es wird über eine Methode zur Bestimmung der Thrombozytenzahl im Blut mit Hilfe eines automatischen Partikelzählgerätes berichtet. Nach Verdünnung einer Blutprobe von 1 ml im Verhältnis 1:5 mit einem Subtosan/ACD-Gemisch kommt es zu einer raschen Sedimentation der Erythrozyten, während über 95% der Thrombozyten im Überstand verbleiben. Nach entsprechender Verdünnung des Überstandes können mit Hilfe des Zählgerätes die Thrombozytenkonzentrationen im Überstand und nach entsprechender Umrechnung auch im Blut leicht bestimmt werden. Die Streuung ist bei dieser Methode mit ±3% gegenüber ±11% bei den bisher üblichen Zählkammerverfahren sehr gering; gleichzeitig ist es im Vergleich zu den Zählkammerverfahren möglich, das 3–4fache an Thrombozytenzählungen/Zeiteinheit durchzuführen.
