Summary 1. The use of casein hydrolysates for parenteral nutrition is not rational as to the nitrogen balance. The peptides contained in the casein hydrolysates can cause allergic reactions as a side effect. 2. There is no proof, that, as to the amino acid pattern, different principles apply in parenteral or enteral nutrition. An amino acid solution, regarding its amino acid content, composed according to the Rose formula, will show the best balances. These results agree with those ofLongenecker c. s. andSwenseid c. s., who did balance experiments in oral nutrition. 3. Glutamin as an unspecific nitrogen source in the amino acid solutions should not be used in so far as it is unstable in aquous solution, where pyrrolidon carbonic acid and ammonium hydroxyde originate.

Zusammenfassung 1. Vom Gesichtspunkt der N-Bilanz aus ist die Anwendung von Caseinhydrolysaten in der parenteralen Ernährung unrationell. Zudem können die in den Caseinhydrolysaten enthaltenen Peptide allergische Reaktionen auslösen. 2. Es gibt keinen Beweis dafür, daß hinsichtlich des Aminosäuremusters für die parenterale Ernährung andere Grundsätze gelten als für die enterale. Eine Lösung, deren essentielle Aminosäuren nach der Formel vonRose zusammengesetzt sind, erbringt die besten Bilanzen. Diese unsere Befunde stehen in Übereinstimmung mit den Ergebnissen der Bilanzversuche vonLongenecker sowie vonSwenseid bei oraler Ernährung. 3. Glutamin ist als unspezifischer N-Träger in den Aminosäurelösungen ungeeignet, weil die Substanz in wäßriger Lösung instabil ist. Es entsteht dabei Pyrrolidoncarbonsäure und Ammoniak.
