    Notes: Abstract Vanadyl pyrophosphate catalysts were generated by dehydrating VOHPO4·(1/2)H2O at different temperatures and duration of the dehydration procedure. The as-synthesised materials were characterised by X-ray diffractometry, FTIR spectroscopy and temperature-programmed reduction. The prolongation of the formation period at higher temperatures led to improved crystallinity and lower BET surface areas of the vanadyl pyrophosphate specimens and, additionally, a significantly impeded reducibility of the vanadyl sites was observed. The catalytic performance of the samples was tested in the partial oxidation of toluene to benzaldehyde. The obtained results revealed an increasing benzaldehyde selectivity with improved catalyst crystallinity. In situ FTIR and ESR spectroscopy were used to throw more light on the interaction of the toluene–air feed with the surface of the catalyst.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Ammoniumpentafluormetallat-monohydrate (NH4)2MeF5 · H2O (M=Fe, Al, Cr) wurden nach verschiedenen Methoden präpariert und durch chemische Analyse, IR-Spektren und Röntgenbeugung charakterisiert. Die Elementarzellen-Parameter der mit der Al-Verbindung isostrukturellen Fe- und Cr-Verbindung wurden ermittelt. IR-Spektren, Röntgenbeugungsdiagramme und Gitterdaten aller drei Verbindungen sind einander sehr ähnlich und beweisen das Vorliegen isolierter [MIIIF5(H2O)]2− -Oktaeder, in denen Wasser mit dem Kation koordiniert ist. Entwässerung und thermische Zersetzung wurden durch simultane TG-DTG-DTA und durch Hochtemperatur-Röntgenbeugung untersucht. Abhängig vom KationM III werden unterschiedliche Reaktionsprodukte und -temperaturen gefunden. Unter kontinuierlicher (M=Cr) oder schrittweiser Freisetzung von NH4F (Fe, Al) wird das jeweilige Fluorid MIIIF33 gebildet.
    Abstract: Резюме Полученные различны ми методами моногидр аты пентафторметаллато в аммония, были охарактеризова ны химическим и рентг енофазовым анализом и ИК спектро скопией. Для соединений железа и х рома, изоструктурных известному соединению алюминия, были определены параметр ы кристаллической яч ейки. ИК спектры, данные ренте нофазового анализа и параметры р ешетки были подобны д ля всех соединений. Установл ено наличие изолированного окта эдра [MIIIF5(H2O)]2−, в котором в ода координирована с кат ионом МIII. Дегидратация и терми ческое разложение бы ли исследованы на Q-дерив атографе методами ТГ, ДТГ и ДТА, а также высок отемпературным рентгенофазовым ана лизом. Определены различные температу ры и продукты дегидра тации, зависящие от природы катиона MIII. В случае алюминий и железосод ержащих соединений, ф торид аммония выделяется в несколько стадий, а в случае хромсодержа щих соединений — выде ляется непрерывно, приводя в о всех случаях к образованию фторидо в трехвалентных мета ллов.
    Notes: Abstract Ammonium pentafluorometallate monohydrates were prepared by different methods and characterized by chemical analysis, IR spectrometry and X-ray diffraction. Unit cell parameters were determined for the Fe and Cr compounds, which were found to be isostructural with the known Al compound. The IR spectra, X-ray diffraction patterns and lattice data on the compounds are very similar, and point to the existence of isolated [MIIIF5(H2O)]2− octahedra. The water is coordinated to theM III cation. Dehydration and thermal decomposition were investigated by thermal analysis (TG, DTG, DTA) on the Q-derivatograph and by high-temperature X-ray diffraction. Different dehydration temperatures and products were found, depending on the nature of theM III cation. NH4F is liberated in several steps (Al or Fe) or continuously (Cr), leading to the formation ofM III fluorides.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wurden saure Kalium- und Rubidiumhexafluoroaluminate durch Fällung aus Alkalifluorid enthaltenden H3AlF6-Lösungen mit Ethanol dargestellt. Die erhaltenen Verbindungen wurden chemisch, röntgenographisch, IR- sowie1H-NMR-spektroskopisch charakterisiert. Die Konstitution der Verbindungen ist MI(H3O)2AlF6. Die Gitterkonstanten wurden aus Röntgendiffraktionsdaten bestimmt. Entwässerung und thermische Zersetzung wurden mittels Heizguiniertechnik und Thermoanalyse (TG, DTG, DTA) an einem Derivatograph-Q untersucht. Bei der thermischen Zersetzung erfolgt eine HF- und H2O-Abgabe sowie eine Kondensation von AlF 6 3− -Oktaedern unter Ausbildung von Schichtstrukturen. Als stabile Zwischenprodukte wurden MIAlF4·0.5H2O und MIAlF4 nachgewiesen. Bei höheren Temperaturen werden Hydrolysereaktionen beobachtet.

    Notes: Abstract Acid alkali hexafluoroaluminates of K and Rb were prepared by precipitation of alkali fluoride containing H3AlF6 solutions with ethanol. Compounds were characterized by X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy,1H-NMR and chemical analysis. The constitution is MI(H3O)2AlF6. Lattice parameters were determined. Dehydration and thermal decomposition were investigated by thermal analysis (TG, DTG, DTA) on a derivatograph-Q and by high temperature X-ray diffraction. Thermal decomposition is accompanied by liberation of H2O and HF and a condensation of [AlF6]3− octahedra forming layer structures. Stable intermediate products are MIAlF4·0.5H2O and MIAlF4. At higher temperatures hydrolysis occurs.

    Description / Table of Contents: 27Al NMR Studies on Alkali FluoroaluminatesThe 27Al NMR spectra of the alkali fluoroaluminates sensitively reflect the kind of condensation of the AlF6 octahedra. Whereas the chemical shift of the octahedral Al is shown to be rather independent on structural details, clear differences in the electric field gradients of isolated and condensed AlF6 octahedra were found. In contrast to the isolated octahedra which show only weak effects of quadrupole interaction, both for chains and layers of AlF6 octahedra axial EFG tensors result with quadrupolar coupling constants of between 10 and 13 MHz; for the threefold chains in CsAlF4 only a value of 7.5 MHz is obtained.
    Notes: Die 27Al-NMR-Spektren der Alkalifluoroaluminate spiegeln in empfindlicher Weise die Verknüpfung der AlF6-Oktaeder wider. Während sich die chemische Verschiebung für das oktaedrisch koordinierte Aluminium als nahezu unbeeinflußt von strukturellen Details erweist, ergeben sich deutliche Unterschiede in den elektrischen Feldgradienten (EFG) zwischen isolierten und verknüpften AlF6-Oktaedern. Im Gegensatz zu den isolierten Oktaedern, bei denen Quadrupolwechselwirkungseffekte nur eine untergeordnete Rolle spielen, ergeben sich sowohl für Ketten als auch schichtförmige Verknüpfung der AlF6-Oktaeder axiale EFG-Tensoren mit Quadrupolkopplungskonstanten zwischen 10 und 13 MHz, bei Verknüpfung als Dreierstrangkette im CsAlF4 lediglich ein Wert von 7,5 MHz.
