Notes: Abstract The blood and plasma kinetics of intravenously administered3H-labelled PAF-acether were determined in seven rabbits. PAF-acether was rapidly distributed and slowly eliminated. Individual variations were very small. The main route of metabolism involves deacetylation of the PAF-acether into lyso-PAF-acether, leading to an equilibrium between the two molecules (10%/90%). This equilibrium, observed within 30 minutes, was still the same after 6 hours suggestingin vivo reacetylation of lyso-PAF-acether into PAF-acether. However, this could not be verified. After intravenous administration of lyso-PAF-acether in two rabbits, PAF-acether could not be found in any blood sample. The pharmacokinetic behaviour of both PAF-acether and lyso-PAF-acether can be described by a three-compartment model.

Notes: In this paper we present a new approach to calculate optical spectra, which for the first time uses a polarization dependent functional within current density functional theory (CDFT), which was proposed by Vignale and Kohn [Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 2037 (1996)]. This polarization dependent functional includes exchange-correlation (xc) contributions in the effective macroscopic electric field. This functional is used to calculate the optical absorption spectrum of several common semiconductors. We achieved in all cases good agreement with experiment. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary In bromatological analysis, classical thin layer chromatography has been applied up to now essentially for the separation of organic compounds. It cannot be doubted though, that the use of thin layers of ion exchangers may broaden the field of application of this method, particularly in food evaluation. The isolation and characterization of numerous toxic or fraudulent mineral ions such as Pb, Hg, Cu, As, SCN, Fe(CN)6 ... can be achieved by this method, eventually coupled with the classical methods of mineralisation or solvent extraction, or with more modern methods such as radio activation. Chromatography on multiple layers of differing nature, set side by side, must give the possibility of achieving in one operation more complete analysis of complex mixtures of mineral and organic compounds by bringing into play, successively, the phenomena of partition, adsorption, and ion exchange.
