Notes:
Summary In this paper we present the results we obtained on turbulent diffusion of a non-Newtonian fluid (PEO) locally injected at the wall of a circular section pipe. The evolution of the diffusion layer or diffusion cone below the injection point and the pressure drop resulting from that injection is studied. In a first approximation, the relative increase of the cone length in regard to the case of water injection is related to the mean homogeneous concentration below the cone by an equation of the following model:ΔL/L = AC j α , whereα andA are constants. From mathematical considerations we have shown the correlation existing between the diffusion rate and the cone length on the one hand and the mass transfer on the other hand. So, it appears that the diffusion coefficient decreases rapidly with the injection rate and that it decreases toward a limit when the drag reduction is going toVirk's asymptote.
