Notes: [Auszug] Fig. 1 X-ray streak camera photograph of a laser-accelerated microdisk target. The target is viewed edge on and is irradiated from below. The X-ray self emission of the accelerated material can be seen moving vertically away from the absorbing edge of unirradiated material. Also shown (above) is ...

Notes: Abstract A method of halftoning rectangular images based on the use of mixed murray polygons is described. This method does not distort the original data by statistical error modification, such as dither or dot diffusion, and thus does not inherently require edge-enhancement methods to restore picture quality. The production of data for high-resolution printers is included as part of the method by introducing for each intensity value an extra low level of tiling, whose patterns are determined by the intensity value itself along with the previous value of the cumulated sum and the orientation of the low-level tile.

Notes: [Auszug] The method proposed here is in two distinct phases. The first of these is very flexible and consists of assigning approximate values at the mesh points of a rectangular grid imposed on the data area. The overall shape of this area need not be rectangular, but for simplicity of ex-position we will ...

Notes: Abstract The light charged particles emitted in the40Ar+68Zn reaction performed at 14.6, 19.6 and 35 MeV/nucleon have been studied inclusively. The energy spectra have been analysed in terms of preequilibrium emission, moving source and coalescence models. A complete coherence between the present data and those obtained separately from heavy fragment studies is achieved. These data are consistent with the onset of projectile fragmentation between 20 and 35 MeV/nucleon correlated with the formation of a highly excited region of the nuclear system inducing light particle emission. The other sources of light particles can be interpreted as statistical and sequential decay of the quasi projectile.

Notes: Abstract An investigation of data and model calculations pertaining to the disassembly of an excited nucleus reveals that the probability of occurrence of various partitions is, in the cases considered, well approximated by expressions of the multinomial form. This finding implies that static (number) correlations (apart from those implied by the constraint of fixed total mass or charge) are rather weak and leads to the conclusion that dynamical correlations need to be measured in order to investigate details of the disassembly mechanism. The sensitivity of correlations to conserved quantities may however by useful for the investigation of certain aspects of the reaction mechanism, in particular for the distinction between central and peripheral collisions.

Notes: Abstract A model for peripheral heavy ion reactions is proposed in which the reaction mechanism is governed by the number of nucleon-nucléon collisions taking place during the interaction. A general random walk process leads to simple expressions for the mass yields. Angular distributions are obtained as the convolution of distributions due to deflection by the ion-ion potential and recoil effects due to the change in mass.

Notes: Abstract Intermediate mass fragment cross-sectionsσ(E, θ, 4≤Z≤11) have been measured in the reaction6Li+46Ti at 156 MeV incident energy. A simple sequential binary decay model describes most of theZ〉8 data as evaporation from the compound nucleus. The complete fusion cross-section is also well reproduced. An intermediate velocity source model (β=2β CN, T=7 MeV) has been used in order to explain the small angle and Z≤8 data which indicate aZ −4.1 dependence.

Notes: Abstract We present an analysis which aims at explaining the similarities (and differences) which exist between a simple bond percolation process on a cubic lattice and the fragmentation of highly excited atomic nuclei. Emphasis is placed on discussing percolation in terms of concepts which are well known in nuclear physics such asQ-value and particle emission thresholds. Similarities and differences between the bond percolation process and nuclear fragmentation are discussed. An approximate expression for the microcanonical partition sum (number of microstates) corresponding to any given percolation partition is shown to provide a good starting point for predicting fragment size distributions.
