Notes: o- and p-Phenylenedioxydiacetic acid (o-, p-PhDDA) undergo in presence of 1,6-hexamethylene (HMDI)-,2,4-toluylene (TDI)-,4,4′-dibenzyl (DBDI)- and 1,5-naphthylene (NDI)-diisocyanates polyaddition reactions. These reactions being accompanied by CO2 evolution finally give polyamides. These syntheses were carried out based on preliminary studies regarding the reactivity of o- and p-PhDDA with aromatic isocyanates. When o- and p-PhDDA acids react with aromatic isocyanates N,N′.-disubstituted diamides are formed. Both reaction partners show bands in their IR-spectra characteristic to VCO and VNH. The intrinsic viscosities of some polymers were measured and thermogravimetric curves were obtained.

Notes: The monomers with substituted allyl-carbazole groups were submitted to radical polymerization both in solution and in bulk using AIBN, BP and DTBP as initiators. So 3- and 3,6-substituted polyallylcarbazole oligomers were obtained; their melting points and yields were a function of the used initiator and the reaction conditions. The recorded IR and NMR spectra permitted to establish some common spectral characteristics of the whole class of polymers. Based on thermodifferential analysis the behaviour under heating was studied. In the series of polymers, the poly(N-allyl-3-chlorocarbazole) showed the best thermal stability.

Description / Table of Contents: The synthesis of statistical copolyamides of aliphatic and aromatic type with various proportions of cycloaliphatic monomers (trans-cyclopropane dicarboxylic acid) is presented. For the obtained products the thermal, solubility and structural properties were determined. The results showed that the presence of cycloaliphatic units in the copolyamide chain have a very similar influence on the polymer properties as aromatic monomers.

Notes: The solution polymerization of styrene in benzene by using N,N′-bis[(4-t-butylazo-4-cyanovaleryl]-oxyethyl)-azo-bis-formamide as a bifunctional initiator is studied. The reaction was proved to be influenced by some factors, namely, initiator and monomer concentrations, temperature, and duration. To correlate the polymer conversion and its molecular weight with these parameters, two regression equations were obtained by carrying out the experiments according to a centrated, rotatable, second order experimental design.

Description / Table of Contents: The synthesis of some diamine-diamide intermediates of aliphatic nature and their use to obtain regular copolyamides is described. Polymer preparation was performed by low temperature polycondensation technique using chloranhydrides of adipic, sebacic, terephthalic and trans-1,2-cyclopropandicarboxylic acids. The obtained copolyamides show good thermal stability up to 400°C. The products with cycloaliphatic units in the chain proved comparable properties with the other copolyamides.
