Abstract The author deals in his paper with the problem of the acceleration of geomorphological processes due to man's activities. He quotes examples of the accelerated soil erosion from medium latitudes and of the accelerated cryogene processes from Siberia. He calls the attention especially to the fact that difficulties can arise connected with the occurrence of thermokarst phenomena and accelerated solifluction as consequence of more intensive economic utilization of the northern regions of Canada and the USSR. In conclusion, he stresses the task of geomorphology in the “managing the man's environment” and in the organization of the aesthetic cultural landscape.

Résumé L'auteur s'occupe dans son article du problème des procès géomorphologiques accélérés par l'activité de l'homme. Il cite des exemples de l'érosion de sol accélérée des latitudes centrales et des procès cryogènes accélérés de la Sibérie. Il appelle l'attention surtout au fait, que des difficultés peuvent se produire en connexion avec l'existence des phénomènes thermocarstiques et de l'accélération de la solifluction comme conséquence de l'utilisation économique plus intensive des régions septentrionales du Canada et de l'URSS. En conclusion, l'auteur accentue le rôle de la géomorphologie dans « managing the man's environment » et dans l'organisation d'un paysage esthétique et culturel.

Zusammenfassung Der Verfasser befaßt sich in seinem Artikel mit dem Problem der durch die Tätigkeit des Menschen beschleunigten geomorphologischen. Prozesse. Er führt Beispiele der beschleunigten Bodenerosion aus den mittleren Breiten und der beschleunigten kryogenen Prozesse aus Sibirien an. Er macht besonders auf die Tatsache aufmerksam, daß es durch die intensivere ökonomische Ausnützung der Nordgebiete Kanadas und der UdSSR zu Schwierigkeiten im Zusammenhang mit dem Vorkommen der Thermokarsterscheinungen und der Beschleunigung der Solifluktion kommen kann. In der Schlußfolgerung hebt er die Rolle der Geomorphologie bei „managing the man's environment“ und der Organisation der ästhetischen Kulturlandschaft hervor.
