Notes: Abstract A boy with abdominal Burkitt's lymphoma developed rectal bleeding, abdominal distension, pain, and fever three weeks after diagnosis. Imaging studies revealed a necrotic tumor mass allowing a fistulous pathway from the ileum to the proximal colon. A laparotomy was performed, with resection of the large necrotic tumor. The child recovered, and has had no further evidence of Burkitt's disease. The radiological evaluation performed in this case ensured proper medical management and surgical intervention during a life-threatening event. the possibility of bowel perforation as a complication of therapy for abdominal lymphoma must be recognized.

Notes: Abstract This paper is concerned with the problem of obtaining higher approximations for the free convection from a heated vertical flat plate to that represented by the well known solution of Schmidt and Beckmann. For large Grashof number, the perturbation problem is a singular one and the method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to construct inner and outer expansions for the velocity and temperature distributions. The small perturbation parameterε is the inverse of the fourth root of the Grashof number and the expansions are shown to involve only integral powers ofε. The first three terms in the expansion are calculated and numerical results are presented for the velocity, temperature, skin friction and heat transfer. The agreement with experiment is found to be excellent, and the theory fully explains the discrepancies which exist between boundary layer theory and experiment.

Notes: Summary The impulsive motion of a flat plate through a viscous incompressible fluid with time-dependent suction applied normally at the plate is considered. An approximate solution is obtained which describes the motion of the fluid during the initial stage of the motion of the plate, and also one which describes the motion at later stages when the suction velocity is large. The particular case when the suction velocity depends linearly on the time is considered in detail.

Notes: Abstract In this paper we consider the changes in the two-dimensional stagnation point flow against a plane wall when the wall is impulsively set in motion in its own plane. In particular a solution which describes the final approach to the ultimate steady state is determined. This solution supplements existing theories, and together they give a full description of the flow for all times.
