Conclusions The actual wear in a lining during one filling of the ladle is satisfactorily approximated by the functions of the type (6′) and (9″). For existing working conditions in the open hearth shop of the Azovstal' Factory (with a ladle conicity of 0.075), Eq. (9″) does not give a noticeable increase in the accuracy of the calculation. The wear of the lining in the ladle can be considered as being directly proportional to the contact time with the molten slag and metal. Using Eq. (6′) it is possible to calculate the extent of the wear, and scientifically to plan the campaign life of the ladles, and properly select the optimum thickness of the structure with respect to the height of the ladle.
