Notes: Abstract The energy spectrum of theβ-decay leading from the ground state of139Ba to the first excited state of139La has been measured in coincidence with the 166keV-γ-transition. For the measurement a well tested 4π-β-γ-coincidence spectrometer has been used. Because of its highβ- andγ-efficiency the instrument is especially suitable for selecting the spectrum of a weak and short livingβ-component. The measured spectrum has been corrected for distortions due to bremsstrahlung escaping from the Si(Li)-detectors. The shape factor has been determined and compared with former measurements. The significance of matrix elements extracted from the spectral shape is discussed.

Notes: Abstract The folding model approach has been used for extracting isoscalar mass transition rates from inelastic α-particle scattering cross sections. The procedure is demonstrated by several cases based on measurements atE α=104 MeV. Some implications of the method and the significance of the size and shape information of the results are discussed.

Notes: Abstract The break-up of 156 MeV6Li ions colliding with12C,60Ni,90Zr,120Sn and208Pb has been experimentally studied. It was found that the break-up cross section decreases rapidly with increasing emission angles of the fragments and increases with increasing target mass. It comprises a fairly large fraction of the total reaction cross section. The observed features suggest that the6Li fragmentation is mainly a peripheral process, and is dominated by the cluster properties of the incident projectile. A simple plane-wave break-up model gives a rather good description of the shapes of the break-up bumps. The angular distributions of the fragments emitted in the6Li+208Pb reaction reveal the transition from peripheral break-up to incomplete fusion processes by which beam-velocity fragments are captured by the target nucleus. In addition to the (α+d) dissociation the (3He+t) break-up has been observed, but the triton spectra appear to be rather complex indicating further components due to more complicated reaction paths.

Notes: Abstract The elastic and inelastic scattering of 156 MeV6Li projectiles from6Li is studied experimentally and theoretically. The experimental differential cross sections are analyzed by the method of coupled discretized continuum channels in which resonant and non-resonant break-up states of6Li are taken into account explicitly. The measured cross sections are simultaneously reproduced quite well by the calculations. Coupling effects of the break-up states are found to play an important role for the scattering.

Notes: Abstract Inclusive break-up cross sections of the reactions12C (6Li,a)X and208Pb (6Li,a)X at 26 MeV/amu, observed for the emission of break-up fragment into the forward hemisphere, are analysed in view of the information about the internal momentum distribution of the projectile. The longitudinal momentum distribution of the fragments in the projectile rest-frame is found to reflect the internal momentum distribution of the clusters whereas the transverse distribution is affected by the projectile-target interaction.

Notes: Abstract Differential cross sections for elastic and inelastic scattering of 104 MeVα-particles from204,206,208Pb were measured with high angular accuracy. The experimental results were analysed on the basis of a semimicroscopic folding model in order to determine the matter distributions at the nuclear surface and the transition densities. Using phenomenological parametrizations of the densities the analyses of elastic scattering yield rms radii of 〈r 2〉1/2=5.55±0.06 (204Pb), 5.57±0.06 (206Pb), 5.63±0.05 (208Pb) fm. Various sensitivities affecting the results were studied. From the inelastic cross sections for the 3 1 − -states octupole transition probabilities and transition radii were derived by using different methods proposed in literature.

Notes: Abstract The real parts of the optical model potentials for 104 MeV alpha-particle and 156 MeV6Li ion scattering from40, 48Ca are calculated in terms of folding model approaches. The validity of different procedures is tested by comparing the differential cross section predictions with experimental data measured with high angular accuracy. It is found that a refined folding potential accounting for density dependence of an effective nucleon-nucleon interaction is appropriate for alpha particle scattering without any parameter adjustment. However, for6Li ion scattering renormalization of the depth of the real potential is necessary.

Notes: Abstract Differential cross sections have been measured for the elastic and inelastic scattering of 104 MeV alpha-particles from90, 92Zr. The experimental data are analyzed in terms of coupled channels on the basis of a flexible anharmonic vibrator model and using different parametrizations of the radial shape of the extended optical potential. The results favour the squared Saxon-Woods type for the real part. Additionally to a radial momentum analysis of the real potentials a semimicroscopic folding model has been applied for extracting isoscalar quadrupole and hexadecapole transition rates.

Notes: Abstract Different forms of a local density approximation (LDA) in effective density-dependent αN-interactions are compared in single-folding optical model analyses of elastic α particle scattering by40, 42, 44, 48Ca atE α=104 MeV and by40Ca atE α=140 MeV. It is shown that the form of the LDA considerably influences the results on folded optical potentials. A variable form of the LDA is suggested and discussed which includes previous forms as limiting cases. The new form leads to better fits to the data and to full consistency with the best available “model-independent” optical potentials.

Notes: Abstract Excitation functions of the compound nuclear reactions191+193Ir,197Au(6Li,xn+yp) forx =3–13 andy=0–2 have been investigated by means of in-beamγ-ray spectroscopy at the 156 MeV6Li beam of the Karlsruhe Isochronous Cyclotron. The beam energy has been varied in the range of 48 to 156 MeV in steps of about 10 MeV by Be-absorber foils in the external beam line. Absolute cross sections have been determined by normalizing the measuredγ-ray intensities to the production cross sections ofK- X-rays in the target. The experimental excitation functions are discussed on the basis of predictions of the preequilibrium (hybrid) model. While in most cases the theoretical calculations fairly well reproduce energy position and shapes of the curves, strong discrepancies in the absolute scale of the cross sections are observed. The theoretical predictions overestimate the (6Li,xn) cross sections by a factor of about 6. Conspicuous anomalies have been detected when comparing the (6Li, xn+1(2)p) reactions with (6Li,xn) reactions. The reactions with emission of one or two protons are considerably enhanced. The discrepancies and anomalies observed are tentatively explained by the influence of direct reaction channels as the6Li break-up, which experimentally proved to be the dominant contribution to the total reaction cross section. The enhancement of the reactions with emission of protons may be a consequence of transfer reactions into highly excited states combined with compound nucleus formation thus implying a cluster effect in preequilibrium emission process.
